Project: KOOLEZT SMALL FBT TANK (10 GAL)

i’ve decided not to upgrade to any bigger tanks, im working on a 10 gal projekt (the one my FBT is in at the moment check my profile for the pics), since i know many of you dont really want to spend loads of money on big tank and big set ups, i dont either but i love my FBT’s so i thought i’d start a new thread on my project "Koolezt Small FBT Tank" maybe this would help everyone who wants to keep their 10gal tank and make their FBT’s happy, hopefully "Scott14/15" would keep checkin back on this and give me some kinds of feedback since he knows shitload (pardon my language) about them..

Current status: Potting Soil (pushed down hard to make it a smooth surface but the toad’ll dig up a couple holes, homemade cave (out of large fake leaves that i cutted off from fake plants, around 10 of them with 2 flexible sticks, one large one small (for the back end to stay down) and set it at a arc and hotglued the leaves together to make a cave and another one with a long stick stuck into soil and 3 leaves hanging over the cave to make it a shadowy area (the porch) and built in my own mini pond out of milk carton (cutted off long strips around 2 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches length, three of them hotglued together and hotglued to a separate piece of glass and stuck it in and made a slope out of fake moss, see pictures in profile for clear pictures) that is the set up for now

FUTURE PLANS: enlarging the pond area by around 3 inches on each side except for the slope area, mist/fogger, and one of those cricket keeper feeder, a leafy shelf and a top canopy and a small hillside in a corner to turn into a waterfall flowing into the pond (what do you think?)

estimated spending: Fogger ($26) Waterfall ($30) Cricket Keeper Feeder ($15) around 75 dollars +tax, less if you use petperks card..

will keep everyone updated on the project!

Buy yourself a hygrometer, this will tell you the humidity of the tank you may not have to buy a fogger, bcause it may make it too humid for the toad(s) i know what waterfall and foggy you are talking about though i was going to buy a water fall for my toads.

Hygrometer?Hydrometer? ah i wanted the fogger to make it look cool since i do love the mist/cloud effect, makes it trippy (in my opinion) didnt know it could get "too" humid for the toad? interesting

yeah. well with all the mist you will have to keep wiping the front of the glass to actually see into the tank. depending on how hot the room temp is. and the tank.

gotta keep it happy, petstore ran out of small crickets and i was stuck with GIGANTIC crickets they were almost as big as the toad, Fiona attacked it instantly and gobbled it all down, i was suprised it could eat something that big and seems to go for the bigger ones and doesnt pay any attention to the small ones... so i guess its happy with big ones, by the way how do you get it to eat wax worms?? it doesnt move or anything, got Fiona a new tankmate, see pic bottom

looking good. the wax worms do move around just not alot if they dont go for the wax worms. get a pair of tweezers foam tips and wriggle the waxworm in front of the toad.

alight thanks, the pond seems to have a leak somewhere, the water level keeps lowering and lowering, i think i have a leak somewhere, so i decided to make it easier for myself by buying a real pond from PetLand, they had pretty nice sized pond for a 10 gal, and deep too, 3 and a half inch deep thats pretty good for me, i’ll update with pictures as soon as possible, also got myself the fogger, havent hooked it up yet im pretty lazy right now haha

make sure ur water depth is varied. Sometimes the toads may feel like swimming in 3 1/2 in but other times the may want to just sit in 1/2 inch

I know, it has shallow beach end opening up to 3 1/2 inch, i’ll have to figure out how to take better pictures with the phone, when i do i’ll post up the pics, the frogs are loving it so far, i have a homemade lily pad in there for them to float on, it sinks a litle when they get onto it but water only goes up to their feet when they are on it so it floats just great :D

Hmm random question, would a Strobe Light bother Toad?? i tried it recently two nights now, it doesnt seem to bother them but is it good idea or is it a bad idea? i have no idea, i mean i jus wanna give it that cool special effect toad world... i dunno haha

Ermm i dont think thats such a good idea so you have the light on the toads tank, you dont just have it on in your room? i think it may stress them out, or they may have a fit im not sure really.. but id say no you shouldnt use it on them, i see were your coming from though lol.

Alright this needs to be updated, heres the update..

i decided to raise one end of the tank to be higher, to make it look more "natural" instead of having the water bowl sticking up high so i filled in more substrate til its a even level so frogs can get in and out with ease, used alot of fake grass moss as bedding outside the pond area, thats all... pretty soon going to finally set up the fogger/mister, and i decided that cricket keeper feeder is kinda too big to put in a 10 gal tank so i’ll stick with shaking the container til they fall out one by one and squirting them with water so its easier for the toads to catch since crickets cant escape easily when wet, one of the toad is having hard time catching cricket and eating it, because it keeps jumping out of its mouth when its trying to stuff it into the mouth so wet cricket solves the problem heres the photos
