Hermes the Spur Thighed Tortoise

here is a pic of our beautiful 2 year old African Spur Thighed Tortoise. Please note these are not a pet for anyone they get very large and out live their owners probably twice over. but if this is what you want they are lovely and very interactive pets. |

Re: Hermes the Spur Thighed Tortoise
| Is your tortoise doing well indoors with UV lighting? I love the looks of sulcatas but am hesitant to get one because I live in PA and cannot give much outdoor time for sunning. |

| Hey Al and Michele...you lost your iguana? I’m sorry to hear about that. The lamp didnt do no good I guess. How long ago did this happen. Do you guys have have your photo on the internet...if you don’t have a place to store photos on the internet I will be providing a server just for photos for members in about a week or two. Thanks for stopping in. PE |

Re: Hermes the Spur Thighed Tortoise
I HAVE HAD MY SULCATA FOR 8 YEARS AND SHE HAS GONE FROM 1/2 OF MY HAND SIZE TO ALLMOST 2FT.LONG AND ABOUT 30 POUND SHE LIKES TO STOMP ABOUT THE BACK YARD AND CLIMBS THE PORCH TO LOOK IN THE BACK DOOR. THE BUROS SHE MAKES ARE ABOUT 10 FEET LONG AND OFTEN GO UNDER THE HOUSE OR DRIVEWAY. ABOUT 4 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR I KEEP HER INSIDE AT 70 DEGREES OR MORE AND SHE NEEDS THE UV LITE ON INDORS .THE POWER BILL DOUBLES. SHE HAS BUSTED THROUGH 3 WALLS SO WE PUT CEMENT BOARD UP AND A GOOD HIDING PLACE FOR HER . SHE IS BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE HER TUNS BUT SHE IS STILL FAR FROM DONE GROWING. AND SHE IS IN THE WILL AND ALL OF THE CHILDREN ARE TRAINED IN TAKING CARE OF HER. SPUR THIGHED TORTOISE ARE VERY SIMILAR BUT SMALLER AND FROM AFRICA ALSO. THEY USTO BE LUMPED TOGETHER BUT NOW ARE CONCIDERED TWO DIFFERENT TYPES. I HOPE THIS HELPS. |
