I have had daisy for i think almost a year now.
here he was when i first got him!

daisy then was thought to be female, and was around 3inches. i think...

here is daisy now! and is over 3 inches im guessing 4 inches i cant find a ruler or tape measure yet.
weighting at 4oz or a lil over by now.

also i think daisy is deffinately MALE take a look

my questions now:

1. Is daisy old enough to be sexually matured? as i swear i got a glimpse of his penis *YUK* he was in the bath soaking he had a drink then pooped then when i lifted him out a pink or purple thing was out then it slipped straight back in!

2. Daisy is supposedly 5 years old, but i don’t know. he is i think just over 4 inches or just under 4 inches literally either 3.6 inches or 4.something inches.
And has Slightly pyramiding...do you possibly think he is older or younger than what is age is?

3. He is lately really climbing my smaller one and like doign those "mating" things and thrusting his hips up and down and opening his mouth making noises.
is this normal for a tortoise of his age?

4. should i seperate my tortoises if they keep on like this?

They have been fed nothing but weeds all the start of this year, we’ve ha dloads springing around my area!

It’s a male, I was able to tell when I first got mine. Females are very distinct!
I will be sure to post pictures of my Russian (tortoise that is) couple asap!

well I would say he is TO young for breeding ... is just like I guess a ’teenager’ or juvinile.

Tortoises like pretty much like any other reptile you can sex before the are fully matured.

amphibiandude, to breed it is better to house them indoors. and when you put a female with a male it could take YEARS.
its not like anoles you know.
tortoises are EXTREMELY hard work. and if you are going to breed. I recomend a 80-100g breeder tank.
to house them outside... the weather can easily get in the way and change breeding behavior.

I would let them know each other for a couple years than when they show breeding behavior..leave them alone as much as you can.
Your tortooise I believe is still young...just recently matured.

Remember to be carefull with breeding... I failed SOOO many times trying to force it. It is instinct not human will.

Hey, also I want you to take sams 20g until the the tortoise pen is done (Iwant to help you build)
He was going to give it to me but you should use it intead..im sure you tort will be really happy with it!

Good Luck with her! I want to see her tomorrow!...I miss her.

you have a point actually Reptilefreak23, theyre not that hard to breed but they can be extremely hard.
The ideal way is to have 1 male per 2 females, it is supposedly ment to help breeding go easier.

Also, you cannot just put them together and expect breeding to get going right away!
they must get to know each other and get use to each other for awhile before they even consider being friends let alone breeding partners.

Definately a male, Tay!

I have heard cases of tortoises ’practicing’ as young as 6 months old. He is still too young to breed, but will flash you every now and again. If he carries on harassing your other tortoises to a point where it stresses it then I would seperate them.

I’m interested in what has been said about breeding. Its not always easy, it took me 9 months of having adult tortoises before I got eggs, I am now getting quite a few. I’m not sure where the comments about having to keep breeding animals indoors comes from. All mine are outdoors now and it hasn’t affected breeding behaviour at all.
