You should not feed your tort anything that has pesicides or fertilizer(such as mircale grow)... it does go to the leaves and flowers.. You could take the hibiscus out of the mircale grow potting soil rinse off as much as possible from the roots and replant in organic potting soil and wait 3-6 months and then feed the leaves/flowers I would not let him roam on your lawn either.. I put my torts in a baby pool with coconut coir/sand substrate, some hay, and a hide to go outside Also.. I have 2 leopards and 2 russians.. Their substrate is 50/50 Coconut coir/playsand (2different enclosures) Not sure of the correct substrate for greeks.. someone will surely be along to answer that Hope that helps, Jackie:) |

Also your tortoise cannot live indoors all its life, when you get warm whether he or she must be kept outside during the warm months of the year. The natural heat and uv light does them the best of the world. If your only getting one greek, before adding a new greek to your current one you must quarentine for a minimum of 90 days if not longer. just to check theyre all fine and well. also they react fine to humans i am assuming i own hermanns, but they are similar in care and what not. So yeah id imaginge theyd be fine with humans. As far as i know most tortoises dont like being handled all that much. What you should do is mow the lawn, cut down all the grass and stuff let it re-grow back fresh so the tortoise doesnt get sick. Also substrate is simple, you should use a combination of soil (top soil or even loambased it usually best, make sure it has no pesticides, fertilizers or anything like that in it) and sand mixed in a 50/50 percent of each. If you dont want that then you can use bed-a-beast, aspen, hemcore anything like that. just never use wood chips or alfaalfa pellets for rabbits. and finally a list fo food! Weeds/Plants/Food that can be fed to any tortoise: ------------------------------------------------- 1.Aloe Vera (limited amounts as it has a high oxalic content) 2.Bamboo (all varieties) 3.Bedstraw (cleavers) 4.Bindweed (it can contain lsd related hallucinogenics and potentially toxic levels of nitrates and oxalic acids so only as part of a restricted varied diet) This is Black Bindweed This is Field Bindweed This is Hedge Bindweed 5.Birds Foot Plant 6.Roses (petals and leaves but not thorns for obvious reasons) 7.Bristly Ox Tongue 8.Buddleia 9.Cacti (some not all) 10.Calendula Marigold/Daisy marigold 11.Campanula 12.Carrot tops (these are rich in vitamin a and fibre but do contain levels of oxalic acid) 13.Cats Ear 14.Clover (all) This is White Clover 15.Cornflour 16.Cut Leaved Nettle 17.Dandelion 18.Evening Primrose 19.Forget Me Not 20.Gazania 21.Globe Thistle 22.Hawks Beard This is a smooth Hawkes Beard 23.Henbit Nettle 24.Hibiscus 25.Honeysuckle Flowers 26.Hostas 27.Knapweed 28.Lavatera 29.Lavender 30.Lemon Mint 31.Mallow 32.Milk Thistle 33.Mimulas 34.Nasturtium 35.Pansies 36.Plantains (all) This is greater Plantain 37.Pumpkin Flowers 38.Rape 39.Red Nettle 40.Ribwort Plantain 41.Sedum 42.Shepherds Purse 43.Slender Speedwell 44.Sow Thistle This is a Smooth Sow Thistle This is Prickly Sow Thistle 45.Spotted Nettle 46.Stinging Nettle 47.Sunflower 48.Trefoils (all) 49.Verches (all but are high in protein so as part of a restricted varied diet) 50.Violets 51.White Nettle 52.Wild Cabbage 53.Yarrow btw during winter when so many weeds and plants are not available you may feed grocery store foods such as romain lettuce, spring mixes, salad mixes and similar things but never feed catfood, meat, fruit, tomatoes or cucumber ro anything like that. just stick to leafy things and the list i just gave. |
