 What kind of Species?????

My kids found a tortoise on the road out at their grandmas. Im not sure the type. Ill try to get a pic up later but for now can any body help me out. His or her shell is domed, he has long nails that are yellowish, a long tail. His spots are a dark brown with yellow-greenish outlines. He seems to like to dig or burrow. Watching him, hes been eating a lot of crab grass and dandelions. Can anybody help?
