 Sooo i decided..

to keep the little tort i was baby sitting. i tried to give the guy info on how to care for the tort but he seemed so uninterested in the proper way of caring for it so i did what i felt was right and told him it died. it took a lot of thinking but i just feel if i let him go back he will only die like his little friend did. im not one to do that nor do i think its right to make up lies but i feel in this situation its in the best interest of this little guy to stay with me.

im still feeling bad for lying but i think id feel worse if it dies once it go back to him.


i bought him a new tub with 50-50 sand soil mix (think it needs more sand) with a uvb light and basking light. hes been eating good and taking little torty baths everyday. his little shell is still extremely soft but im hoping with the correct lighting hes been getting he will do ok.

here’s a few pix. i will set up his tub better once im not prego anymore. hard doin stuff with this big ol belly (10 days left).

this is it so far. hes got a cave and stuff you just cant really see it. my batteries were runny low so i took what pix i could.







ran out of his normal green so hes eating lettuce for today. normally they dont get stuff like that.

I think you definitely did the right thing. Good luck with the little guy. I love tortoises, and turtles too.

Yesterday I was riding my horse down in our county park on the trails, and came across a big ol snapping turtle sitting on a tree trunk jutting out over a pond. When he saw me, he shoved off and made a huge splash. Scared my horse...lol.

Well you did what a lot of us would have done. Captainjack lying is never right but I do understand why it had to be done-I would have probably done the same thing! Beautiful little tort-keep us updated!

I would never encourage lying about death.
however, it has saved a beautiful lovely little tortoise.

Looking at the photos, he could be a sulcata tortoise..just very bad in shape and coloration.

Have you named the lil guy yet?
I would name him Pickle (cuz it is cute) or LUCKIE cuz he so lucky to be with you.

What did the guy say about his tortoise dying? did he ask for the body?

when i told the guy it died he kinda sat there for a min with a sad face then said "well guess i need a new pet now". he didn’t ask about the body at all. i just told him i found it dead in the water dish and that was that. he really didn’t seem to think much of it.

i haven’t picked a name just yet..lol im so bad with names. i haven’t even named the torts i have! i just call them Sullys..lol

Thats such a shame that he didnt even batter an eye lid at the death of his pet!
He seems a relatively dumb, and cold hearted person.

Anywhoo, i prefer names for my pets. I hate having a pet without a name. Heck when i got my fish i stayed awake for hours that night thinking of a name haha!

Anyway! congrats and good luck with the little cutie.

it’s okay to lie sometimes if it’s for the right reason.
my cousin wanted a northern map turtle of mine and he said he would’ve put it with his uromastx because it only eat veggies and has 1/2 land 1/2 water in its tank. so i said to leave them in a tank outside for uvb and heat,and when he went to the bathroom i took the turtles out and hid them and tore the tank up like a raccoon would do and said i saw a raccoon eat the turtles but i was too late.
