Hi there, my boyfriend’s family have had a tortoise for years. We’re not quite sure how old she is but his grandad got her from his mother. Anyway, I was wondering If you could tell me what type of tortoise she is? I looked on google at all the breeds I could come up with from research, but some photos looked like her and some didn’t. So thanks in advance if anyone can help!

Rachel

Hey Piggle! welcome to tortoise boards of repticzone, dont think ive seen you around this part before.

Anyhow, looks like you have a beautiful adult Hermanns Tortoise.

If you can get a photo of his or her tail, and belly that would be great! i could definately say it was hermanns or not.

That tortoise must be a relatively middle aged adult there. What a beauty!

Yeah I’m normally on the bearded dragons forum as I’m getting one soon. I think It’d be easier to tell if she wasn’t so dirty! lmao, she loves being outside, she thinks she’s a dog. She always goes to the door when she wants outside or if she needs the toilet, It’s really quite amazing :P
I’ll try and get a pic of her belly etc. next time i’m down there but that might not be for a little while. (Long distance - at least for the next few weeks it is lol, hes moving here). I think i’m gonna give her a bath when i see her next.
But yeah.. what have you got?
Rach

I have 2 hermanns tortoises, my larger one is male named Daisy, when we first got him we thought he was a she, wasn’t til he flashed during his bath time i noticed daisy was a boy. I never bothered changing his name, as it stuck haha! And my smaller one, who i personally think is a girl named Looi. Daisy is 5 years old, and looi is 2 years old. I have had looi since she was a baby, and daisy for a year now, daisy turned 5 may 5th 2008.

Heres some pics of daisy ~ daisy is very shy, and doesnt like being handled much. He is coming on 4 and a half inches long, with a big tail, and some hard kicking legs. And weighs roughly just over 4 oz.

Here are some pics of looi ~ looi is friendly, but if hes hungry he nips your fingers, and he hates anyone touching his food dish, its like his throne! he sits in it alot and rams your hand if you trya nd grab it. so im quick early mornings ready for feeding. He also hates being handled.

and heres there size differences! ~ looi is just under 3 niches.

aww they’re lovely
Slow doesn’t really mind being picked up, and she loves having her head stroked
She isn’t kept in a specific place though, she just wonders through the house like she owns it lol.
I don’t know why but i think its the cutest thing ever when she yawns

Haha, she sounds lovely.
Most tortoises will love the odd stroke on the head or under the chin. Its nice for them.

My tortoises since so small, they have a indoor rabbit cage as a home, when they are adults they will live a permanent life in my grandparents garden with a heated shed for them.
