sand isn’t an ideal substrate.

i just use soil that you find at petsmart(bedabeast or ecoearth, they come in bricks) and oak tree leaves.i have heard of some people that use a 40/60 mix of sand/soil but i don’t.

Hi, sand is ok aslong as it is Playsand and mixed with soil.

Usually you can do a 50/50 of soil and playsand, you put half of each then mix it all together, that works fine.

yes,it’s an eastern.
at that size, i think it might be okay to keep it in a glass cage, but get a turtle pen or an outdoor fenced off area for it ASAP.
how hot does it get in the cage/basking spot?
do you have a UVB lamp for it?

Deffinately an easterns by the looks of it.

Hi, he is very small so a glass aquarium should be fine.

Boxies do best outdoors.

Thats fine, just remember when its cold you should have a uvb for indoors.
In saying that, an experiance friend of mine once said that as long as the turtle/tortoise has been warmed up before going out it is fine on cold days.

besides, apparently 30 minutes outside is the same amount as 12 hours uvb artificial lighting indoors.
So your fine for now.
