Sulcutas are a huge responsibility. Do you realize how big they get and how much of a back yard they would take up? They def. arent a beginers tortoise, and w/ no experience w/ torts I would not suggest a sully, maybe something smaller to start with.

THere is a perfect page to read .... ITs called the sulcata challenge
There is lady in New York that runs a turtle/tortoise rescue... She is also a state licensed rehabber for wildlife... This is a VERY legitimately run rescue...
She gets in several sulcata yearly (thats probably an understatement) and knows what it takes to have them.... She was just talking about her 90 lb and 60 lb ones she has now (not sure if they are up for adoption)
She likes to rehome them to the south... warmer climate so the suclata can be outside longer during the year
Here is a link to her Sulcata challenge LINK 1
Here is a link to the whole website....LINK 2
This is a wonderful place to start to learn more about if a sulcata is right for you
Here is a link to a website with GREAT researched information about sulcata...LINK 3
This link even provides a huge list of good/bad NATURAL diet(meaning grasses, hay’s, flowers, weeds, etc...)
and then please feel free to join the yahoo group *african-tortoise*, introduce yourself and ask away with suclata questions... There is many keepers with LOTS of experience, wisdom, and researched knowledge who can answer just about any question you have
Jackie:)
Please adopt an unwanted sulcata.. there are MANY out there.. instead of supporting the overbreeding of them....JMO:)
