is she in an aquarium?

If so get rid. And change that substrate - its bad stuff.

I have her in a reptile tank with wood chips, her Vet. told me to use that as the flooring. I change thw bedding every week. Would you recommend me using something different for bedding?

Reptile tanks are bad get a tortoise table or indoor rabbit cage.

As for the vet find a reptile specialist who recommends tortoise tables or indoor rabbit cages as their enclosure - then you know they are good w/ torts.

As for bedding, aspen works well but you can use ec-earth, top soil 50/50 mix with playsand, hemcore (similar to aspen) or grass turf works well. But Yah, woodchips = bad.

You can also use hay:

Meadow Hay
Timothy Hay
Orchid Hay

Those aren’t woodchips, they’re compressed alfalfa pellets. I fell for that too, and my Vet specifies reptile vet, but I guess not really. They gave me some bad advice on my Pythons too, so next time I’m gonna find a different one. I switched to sand and soil and my Betty monster loves it. She digs all the time and makes nests with the hay.

Zandra, we use organic soil for Tallula she LOVES to dig into that :) It’s healthy for her, she doesnt eat it and its great for keeping up humidity :) Very easy to keep, and we only change it once every couple months :) CHEAP !

You will more than likely see Miss Toby get alot more active after changing the substrate. The alfalfa pellets are really bad ( not your fault!), the torts can’t walk properly on the pellets and over time will more than likely develop leg problems. And that would definitely be the cause of why she looks so dry.

:) So once you make the changes, you will see positive changes in Toby too !
