 Missing Tortoise

hey everyone. I need some advice. I was outside with my tortoise (turbo) today and that last time that I saw him he was buried underneath a bush. I was right there on the front porch the whole time and I didn’t see him move from there at all. There were a total of 6 of us looking all over for him since 11 this morning. I’m going to continue to look obviously but if anyone has any advice I’ll take it. He’s very active in the morning so I will look then too.

Please help me. I am so upset that I’ve lost turbo. Please tell me what to do next.

What kind of tort? During the times it was most active you can place some red or orange fruit out and maybe that will entice it? And try going out to look at different times of the day. It might help if you get down on their level, so crawl around on hands and knees looking. They are great at burying themselves even in places you wouldn’t think possible. Do you have a dog that could maybe help you look by sniffing him out? Is it possible he left your yard? If so make flyers and maybe even post it on criagslist. Go door to door if you have too.
I do hope you find him, good luck!

A dog is a great idea. My stupid neighbors dog immediately finds my torts no matter where they are. It would be like in the movies, but I’m sure it will work. Best of luck to you.

a dog would work i think, but watch the dog carfully, it might attack ur tort if it finds it. my grandparents had a dog that would find box turtles and pick them up and carry them to its dog house, and if they ran off it would just sniff them out and bring them back. sigh, but keep us updated and tell us if u find it:) best of luck

it happened yesterday. I was out on my boyfriends porch and Turbo had dug himself a ways under a bush. I figured that I would see him if he moved around so I wasn’t getting up to check every minute. What I thought was him that I was checking on was a leaf. He is a russian tortoise. It is possible that he went into the woods or neighbors yards which makes me sick to my stomach. I had both my dog and a friends dog look. It could not have been more than 20 minutes. He is about 4-5 inches long. I posted an ad last night on craigslist and have looked in our local papers. I went out this morning with his usual food and called him name, walking up and down the block but no luck. Last night I put out his heating lamp on a rock, nothing. To make things worse, I leave for college tomorrow. Thankfully, several people are helping me out on the hunt for Turbo.

I’m running out of options. Please help.

Really sorry that you have to go through this. Unfortunately there really isn’t anything else you can do but to keep searching. My Russian buries herself in the grass and stays put for a long time so you may need to crawl around and search everywhere. As far as him getting in to the woods... Thats not good and I hope that he didn’t. Post flyers and hopefully if someone finds him they will call. Good luck in your search.

Look under every bush and every rock. My russian dug under a rock once and it didnt even look like the dirt around it was touched. You might want to use gloves because of spiders. I hope you find him soon.
