 My Poor Baby :(

I found out why Gretta wasn’t eating. I decided that she should go to the vet and found out she has every reason to be acting weird....she’s sick :( she has a URI and hook worms... I can’t believe my poor baby is sick...The vet said she has probably been sick for a few weeks with the hook worms because it takes time for them to manifest in a tortoise like they did with Gretta. The only good thing is now that we know what it is, we can give her the appropriate treatment so she feels better soon. So unfortunately there will not be any pictures of baby Gretta for a while now. I just can’t take pictures of her while she’s sick. That just wouldn’t be fair to her....I will keep you updated on her progress.

So sorry that your little one is sick. Hopefully she will feel better soon! I hope your store has the little Russian checked out too. At least you caught it and its treatable! Looking forward to seeing pics later when she’s better

Thanks for your support. The Russian has an appointment Monday morning to make sure she isnt sick too. We noticed that she is starting to have labored breathing as well, so we are concerned about her too. Thats actually one of the signs of hookworms too... :(

Ahh I’m sorry! I sure hope it all goes well. So will the store help pay for your vet costs since she had them before you got her? Anyway good luck :)

Get the vet to put it in writing. If it’s just a hunch, they usually won’t, like i they suspect it’s genetic. A pet store can do what ever they want I guess, but most will accept a vets written diagnosis.

Actually, at Petsmart we have a 14 day health guarantee on all of our pets. So I took her back to work and they took her to the vet and paid for EVERYTHING :) Plus, since she has to get injections to treat the upper respiratory infection and shes on an oral medication for the hookworms, she has to stay at Petsmart until she gets better. However, our petcare manager knows how to do injections, she is a certified vet tech so she is better off at work at this point anyways. Plus, since I work there, I still get to see her daily and I get to spoil her too. I still cant wait to get her home to her newly built mansion. I know shes going to love it :)

That’s really sad. I had to give my RTB injections 3 x a day for 2 weeks. I couldn’t imagine giving one of my torts an injection. Lucky you have a certified friend.

Yes. I am very thankful for her. I dont know if i could handle doing the injections. At least the only thing I have to worry about is making sure Gretta still gets spoiled while shes at Petsmart...
