Your Welcome and just as an FYI make sure you do LOTS of research on how to take care of sulcata tortoises because they et very large so they of course eat lots and need lots of room...but good luck with everything and if you have any other questions, dont hesitat to post them...people on theis forum know lots of info... :)

Its a sulcata, and as said above, they require lots of space and research.

What kind of tortoise is this??

Thanks, I have been reading most of the night about her/him. And yes, HIGH maintenance!!! I did place an ad in the local paper to see if he/she is missing a family.... which I hope he is!! But, in the mean time we are off to the store to see what we can find to make him/her happy. We do have plenty of room for it but not sure what I would do with him in the winter... still working on that. I am in Colorado so it isn’t like he can just live outside!! We do have an old playhouse that my daughter isn’t loving anymore so that may become his winter home with a light and heater.

Thanks so much for your help! I am sure I will be posting a LOT of questions... we did not plan to adopt a tortoise but my husband was worried with him being on the road!! Now that I know he wasn’t supposed to be in CO I am glad he did, he would not have made it out there!!

Yep glad you saved the big guy. here is a really great site with a great list of foods, at that size you can feed them grass hay and if your yard hasn’t been sprayed with anything they can graze in your yard. http://africantortoise.com/sulcata.htm
Most people build small sheds with heat emitters and heat mats for them in cold areas for winter. They actually do ok outside as long as they can get in when they want too and warm up.

I would post some found ads around , these guys can really move around fast. Fortunatly mine has never escaped, but a friend of mine had his find his way out and was found 10 miles from his house and doing fine. People really get attached to these guys and he loooks like someone took very good care of him.
