 Hmmm...

Hi there! Just this morning I found that my russian tortoise made this dark brown, almost reddish puddle in her food bowl. Is this normal? Thanks in advance!

 Hmmm...

My request may be gross, but can you post a picture? It MIGHT just be diarrhea resulting from the diet... has he eaten any fruit or have a change in diet?

 Hmmm...

Sorry for not replying straight away, but my internet broke down :(
Here are the pics (she made a mini puddle this time, probably during the night because this morning it was already all dried up):

Sorry, the pictures are a bit blurry.

She hasn’t had a change in her diet, no wait, she has! We’ve been giving her a bit of tomato as a treat, because she REALLY likes it. Could this be the problem?

 Hmmm...

Yes, tomatoes are most likely the problem. Tomatoes can mess up the flora in the gut and cause runny poop. The gut flora is bateria that breaks up the fiberous vegetation they should be eating.

It can also cause parasites, and believe me all of our torts even captive bred ones have them, to grow.

She did have a slight change in her diet! I’ve been giving her a tiny piece of tomato every once in a while as a treat because she really seems to like it. Could this be the problem?

 Hmmm...

Just soak the substrate with water under the basking light every few days... so that it’s moist not wet
