 I have a question???

We had a California Desert Tortoise that lived in the yard and would sleep in the garage at night. One day she got away, someone left the gate open. Any-who... I was wondering if I get another type of Tortoise could they live in the same way?That is be in the yard all day, lots of sun, lots of plants, lots of room. And at night sleep in a 4’x4’ box with heating. My dad really loved his tortoise and I want to get him another one, he likes them really big. Anyone know of large breeds of tortoise?

Go for a redfooted tortoise, or hermanns tortoise. You will find them to be way fun and outdoors would be the best. Im guessing you live in eiter california, arizona, or navada.

Collaredliz, i know the redfoot would be great as they grow very large (to me lol is it 16 inches?)
but he said his father would like a BIG tortoise, so sulcata,redfoot or a similar species would be great right?

Well Desert tortoise dont get that big, desert tortoises only get 13 or so inches, a red footed tortoise can outgrow one. Also alot of other tortoises dont have the same care as a desert tortoise.

You must have a permit since you had a desert tortoise, why not just adopt another one, there are so many that need homes.

thanks everyone, well when I said big, i meant about a foot or more in size. OK these sound great! Yes, I do live in Southern Cal. and I’ll be looking into adopting or looking at some at the locale exotic pet store. thanks to all
