 Green Tree Frog

I have a green tree frog and two FBT’s. I will probly be spending more time in this forum. Anyway I have had him for probly 4 months and he’s been through alot. He came down with the infamous red leg disease which I luckily was able to cure. He is my favorite pet amphibian. I love how he sticks to the glass and barks like a dog at least that is what his call sounds like to me.

 Green Tree Frog

I have a large male green tree frog (gtf) and I love the way he "barks" at night as well. I bought a younger gtf at Petco on friday, this afternoon I checked the tank temp (it’s been a warm day) and new arrivial was on his side on the substrait with what appears to be dropsey. I removed and put him in some water and talked to him for a while, his eyes opened and shut but he didn’t look to good, he was extermely bloated, I did some online research - but there is not too much you can do on a saunday night. He died about an hour later, delated but not moving :( I hope my other frog doesn’t get it! I’ll have to do a cleaning in the am. I also have two anoles which are great fun - very active. I buy my crickets in bulk from wormman.com and fatten them up with gut buster - the whole experience with these animals is fun - but I feel like I’m getting a bit obsesive. Should I return my poor dead frog to Petco for another - I’m worried about the quality of their pet :/

d.

 Green Tree Frog

Hi Dhark,
Alot of Green Tree Frogs are hurt during shipping to pet stores. I think that is probly what happened to yours. I would return him to Petco. Look for a pretty good size frog the tiny ones may be cute but if they are really tiny there chances of survival are less. Also if the frog he’s getting for you doesnt try to hop away it may be sick so get a active one.

 Green Tree Frog

you know - when I purchased the frog from Petco, the girl who got if for me didn’t wash her hands, before or after handeling the frog! That says so much right there. When I go to the Vivarium (http://www.eastbayvivarium.com/) in Berkeley (CA) they people there walk around and clean their hands at every soap station they pass, like it’s part of their jobs to be continually cleaning themselves. I don’t think I’ll buy from Petco anymore, it’s not worth risking the life of my beautiful big guy I’ve had for a while. Thanks for your advice! dharkins
