Hi. I have a question. What do you mean by give up your aquarium? Is there anything in your aquarium now? What you do with your existing pets will probably influence your parents decision as it is indicative of your level or responsibility. If you are willing to give up current pets for a new pet, your parents might decide you are too fickle to commit to a pet.

well i have a 29 gl aquarium with about four fish and there aren’t any cool fish that are suitable in the tank. I have a friend that has a 50 gl with all tropicals so i thought about giving the remaining fish to her.

You shouldnt have to give up your aquriaum you could do that up to be a frog tank just give your fish to your friend and keep the tank that way it wont cost you as much to setup a tank as you already have a tank.
29 gallon i reakon you can have to frogs in that, just tell your parents you dont need to spend money on a tank cause you already have one all you need is the accessories.

I think what was meant was that they would get the fish out and reuse the tank.

I think the best thing is to read as much as possible about them, write down all the costs of the things that you need and how much it will cost to feed them a week and present the info to your parents. This will be a good indication that you are ready and knowledgable enough to have one.

Good luck! (Also showing some of the cute pics from on here of them wouldn’t hurt, they make me want one!)

There is another thought that has not been said..... With whites the accessories are expensive...

You need a day lamp and night lamp and most likely a uth.... Then large water dishes and other decorations, temp and humidity guages, substrate, water treatment drops... screening for your tank (or you’ll get escaped crickets), timers, wood, etc....

With the cost of screening tops here its just as cheap to buy the exo terra tanks and really nice for setting up... But thats in Canada...

There are some shortcuts but its a lot of work at first to get things needed and to work for frogs..

The biggest downfall with convincing parents is that frogs require live foods...crickets mainly so another set up is needed for them. Or a crickets keeper which holds say 25-30 crickets and you can give them carrot in it.. (unless your parents are willing on this...don’t get frogs. No matter what people tell you crickets is their staple)..

We would gladly talk to your parents on a post if you would like too.... as they do make wonderful pets and many parents don’t realize until they have held one at a store...

As far as fish and frogs go, I have a couple fish in the water in our frog tank and GOD!!! I can’t wait until they die!

That sounds so bad, I am an animal lover, but they yuck up that water so much!

Frogs water does need to be conditioned as well. As far as setups I would recommend looking into various types to see how you want to go. Some need daily maintenance, others just minimal weekly touchups. That was important to me, that I didn’t have to tear down the tank etc. It took longer to set mine up but now I just wipe down the glass once a week and change the filter once a month or so.

Do keep in mind that crickets are expensive, it will cost you a few dollars a week to feed one buying from the petstore. Then you need backups since many times they run out. I actually spend more feeding two frogs than 3 cats. Then you need to replace bulbs etc.

I have lots of fish tanks and lots of frogs. And with all else frog related aside (like cleaning the frog tank and refreshing the water daily), the amount of time I spend on crickets alone is 10 times more than I spend on any of my fish tanks.

Frogsarethashit

What is it that takes so much time with the crickets? Do you order in bulk, store buy or breed your own?

I order in bulk and other than when I go to feed my frogs (every 2 days) I don’t spend any time on them at all. I just turn over the eggcrates to dump the skeletons, put water gel in and feed probably every other time.

It definitely more work than opening the fish flake can but not too much for me.
