 Introducing our new frog, Fudge

Hello! I thought I’d introduce you all to Fudge, our new white-lipped tree frog whose name honors our WTF that passed away a couple of weeks ago (Pudge). We thought it was appropriate since his color looks like a fudgesicle. He croaked the other day and I nearly jumped out of my seat. I wasn’t expecting to hear anything from him just yet, I guess. Still, it was only 3 short croaks, and then silence, so I’m not sure if it is a he or not. I wasn’t close to his tank, so he didn’t seem to be stressed, nothing was bothering him that I’m aware of - he just let out a few croaks for the heck of it. I’m hoping that’s a sign it’s a boy froggie.

Hello, everyone! My name is Fudge!

Gettin’ ready to take a dip...

Awww, he’s pretty shy, so these are the first good pics of him. At least I think it’s a him...

And in the other tank, not one to be outdone, Freddie had to jump into his dish and play some peek-a-boo for the camera:

Freddie is still pretty small and hasn’t croaked yet, so I’m wondering if the name should be Frederica!

Thanks! Yes, Whitie, it was cool when he croaked. I kept hoping he’d do it more, but that was all there was. My son hasn’t heard it yet, so I hope he does it again sometime soon. He’s pretty skittish, though, and definitely not as curious about us as the White’s were. When he saw me walk into the room, he just stopped and flinched, then froze there on his water dish. I do miss that the White’s were so friendly, but I will keep feeding at regular times and hoping that Fudge will become more docile, as Hoppy said.

Hoppy, we got Fudge at a different pet store, and their frogs were all nice and healthy looking. They were all plump and happy looking - big difference from the White’s at that "other" store. They also offered a 14-day guarantee, as opposed to the 7-day at the other store. I am tempted to go into the "other" pet store at times, just to see if they have more frogs and what condition they are in. The manager told me at the time that they don’t usually carry White’s, but we had seen them there before so I don’t really believe that. It just makes me mad that they’d sell frogs in poor condition, but I never knew that pet stores did that to try to get sympathy purchases. Live and learn!
