 Grey Tree Frog concern

Hello,
I recently got a grey tree frog from a local pet store. When I got him/her home, I realized that he/she had an air bubble-like bump on it’s rear (tumor??). I took him/her back they were very concerned and said it was good that I brought him/her back so that they could try to do something for the poor froggie. They did give me a new one. My question is, should I worry about the health of this one as they were in the same terrerium? They were active in the pet store and looked healthy. My new frog has been eating fine, somewhat active, and is lump free. Is there anything that I should look out for?

Hi you are best to keep an eye on it although it should be okay. Is the frog in the tank on its own now?

Excellent, it is always a good sign when they are still eating and are active. All the best.

Keep a close eye on the new one.
Did you clean the tank really well before adding the new one? If not I would completely take it apart and sterlize everything.
I would use just paper towel in the bottome for awhile so you can keep a close eye on waste and the frog.
I wish you luck.
If you start to notice anything different please let us know, you may have to start treatment.

Yes, I very carefully washed everything, with very hot water, replaced coconut fiber and new drift wood, though I’ve heard since then that I could have put the driftwood in the oven for 30 min at 350 deg. to sterilize it... Is this true? Her water bowl was cleaned ( no soap, just hot water) , the plant decorations were replaced. I will replace her new bedding with paper towels.... is it ok to leave the moss I got? It’s Flukers all natural moss for terrariums, she loves it.

I was hoping for a male, only because I love the singing... but she stole my heart, she’s so sweet! : ) .

And thank you both for your advice, i’m so glad I found this site right away.

I would get rid of the moss. It can cause impaction if swollowed.
All most anything you put in a viv, should be boiled or baked first.

Oops.. ok... I will, thanks. She is really active tonight, this is the most active i’ve seen her. So I feel a little less worried.

To help ease the stress of being ’new’...

Try to do things in routine.... Some infections in amphibians show themselves when high stress situation presents itself like transport, new home etc..

You’ve received good advice above....so insure this is all done..

Get your temps up slightly as this helps new frogs settle in as well and keep any bacterial issues minimal...say 5f degrees higher..

Darken 3 sides of tank with a garbage bag taped on so front is only visable...this give security feeling as if in a log/cave....

Try not peek to much at first....or disturb his interior once cleaned... Just water and food daily on scheduled times if possible..

Soon he will ’know’ you and trust your entering in his tank... Frogs are very intelligent.. :)

Keep us all posted.. All the above will help settle him in faster especially if he’s been exposed and now solo too..

I replaced the bedding with paper towels and the temp. is good. She seems to be settling in nicely, and was very active last night. Thanks for all of the great advice. I just want a happy healthy froggie. : )
