About sexing the gray tree frogs

hi ... this is my first post so if i sound like an idiot i probably am so dont take offense. anyways i’ve heard that you can tell male from female by the males throat being black but how black. because i have two and one has a few black speckles on its throat so is that a male or does it need to be solid. and wat is a good soil for them i tried to use peat moss with them but really powdery and i spray it down once a day but it dries out by the end of the day and i heard that that can cause respiratory problems so wat can i do and or wat would be a better substitute. one more question the salamander forums wouldn’t allow me to post there for some reason said i needed to log in again everytime. so i have a tiger salamander and first off he is about 9 to 10 inches and he lost his gills they got smaller and smaller till they disappeared now there gone anyone know why? and i tried to make his terrium more comfortable and pur peat moss and water in his terrium and the peat moss didnt react well to it it float and stuck all over him and so i tried just some big rocks so he could get out if he wanted top but i would rather put soil in there so he can burrow but dont know wat kind to get to not make such a mess

The only way to learn or even protect something is to ask a question so never hesitate.

In male frogs the throat is darker normally but its not a great way to sex them. The best way is when one croaks.. Males throats are loose and balloon out then croak.. Females are usually more quiet and only is answer to the males..

For a substrate you really need to get something like eco earth (no bark) or a soil that has no fertilizers in it...
You need a drainage under any that you put. Most use rocks.

You need to get guages.... temperature and humidity guage... These should be placed on the warm side. This will tell you how much in misting you need to keep him healthy etc....

It might be good to look at members’ set ups of their frogs to get some ideas... I’ll put one of mine so you can see but I only use paper towel for my substrate and my plants are all silk...
Planted tanks are ideal using live plants etc.. When using eco earth ect I would make it a live tank..

LOL, the other dude is not a dude, she is female.
The reason you don’t use bark is because it is rough and can cut,or harm the skin. It also can ingest the bark which can get stuck in the frog and cause impaction or worse. (Impaction means it can not pass the bark).
