Feeding dead bugs to whites tree frog 
ok when I had a leopard frog I had to feed it live food because if it didn’t move it could not see it. here’s the question, can I feed my whites tree frog dead food?

Based on what I’ve read about amphibians and WTFs in particular, I would say no. It’s the movement of the prey animals that stimulates the feeding response in most amphibians. reako45

i got mine to eat a cricket that was dead but it was more on accident then anything i was cleaning and the whole tank was empty and i was messing with him and he just ate it. its easier to just toss the jumping live ones in there.

I feed my frog live food but I like to have dead ones on hand. If I hand the dead ones to him he will eat them(same with live). Last night this cricket just sat on my hand so I put my hand in my frogs tank and he had to jump on my hand to get it. Then he just left his front foot sitting there on my hand while he ate so I had to wait ’till he moved it to take my hand out. lol.

I don’t feed my baby whites tree frog mealworms cuz I’ve heard bad stuff about them. Plus they are very fatening.

What different things do you feed him? I’ve heard that it’s good to feed them to him once in a while. They need a combination in their diet and require some fat.

Well what about feeding baby "pinky" mice to Whites... How often should you feed them a pinky..once a month? Then after you DO feed them a pinky how long should you wait to feed them their regular diet again ? I’ve been wondering if i should introduce my whites to pinkies or not.

Hi, Ok I’ve had whites before, they wont eat anything that doesnt move as this is what attracts them to there prey, also live foods can be gut loaded meaning they are healthier for yuor pet.... who knows what the dead bugs were eating(or if they were eating) before they were canned? meal worms are fine and no these are not the ones that are ver fatty those are wax worms, and don’t listen tio anyone who says " the worms can chew through the frogs stomich if you don’t cut there heads off"! it isnt true, I have read this so many times and I can only laugh.... if the worm was to be swollowed alive... inside the stomich there isnt enough air for the worm to live for more then a minute in this time the worm does not have time to chew through the stomich, the same is true for lizards and worms but the myth still goes on.
