Basic care of a grey tree frog?

Hey,

Tonight I am going to go "frog hunting" at my friends house. Last time I was there we saw, bull frogs, greys, tadpoles, peepers, ect. I was not prepared last time to catch frogs. All I had on was an sweat shirt, sneaker, jeans, and socks. I really needed to were my dad’s thigh high boots, and a poncho... This time I will be prepaired!!

I plan on catching one grey tree frog.

I’d like to know their basic care, what they eat, setup of cage, lighting, and pretty much everything you will need to know about taking care of a grey tree frog!

Thanks!!

I have one more question; what plants can they have in their setup? Can they have the Chlorophytum comosum "Spider Plant"? We have tons of these in our house, my mom loves to grow them!

What other plants can they have in their setup? It would be great if you could tell me the name of the plants and show me a pic too... :)

Thanks again!!!

Why are you going to catch a wild frog when you are going to be getting a wtf?

I for one do not believe you should take one out of the wild. There are plenty of frogs that need to be rescued from pet stores.

Do a search on google.
I gave you all the info on a wtf that you could have done your own research, you can do this one on your own.

Sorry for so many question...

Can greys be kept on paper towels? I think it would be easyeir for feeding....?

I am planning to move mt new grey into my gold fish’d 10 gallon tank. Don’t worry, I plan also to move the gold fish out of that cage and into a fish bowel! This cage already has a heating pad. Can I turn it on, will he enjoy the warmth?

Thanks so much!!

I promise, no more question.. LOL......

I am don’t think I am going to go and get an wtf....

There are no pet store AT ALL around that sell grey tree frogs...
Trust me if they did, then I would of bought a grey at the store by now....

Why are you being rude. Some people belive in catching wild caught animals, some hate when people do that..
Well I know there is a fair share of people on here who has caught greys in the wild, like that girl, not sure of her user name, but she caught three or two of her greys from the wild...

So if you don’t want to help me on this grey, then I will find another person who will help me out. I am going to get a grey tonight no matter what you say...

I am sorry if I sound rude... I was very glad that you helped me out on the wtf info. I thank you for that. I just decided I wanted to get a grey insted... sorry....

Well, with your last wtf, we all tried to help you and told you that a ten gal. was to small for it and you didn’t listen, you argued with us.

We all told you not to take it outside and do the things you were doing and you argued.
I thought maybe you really wanted to do the right thing this time so I thought I would take the time and try and help you.

But it seems you expect everyone to do the work for you.

Good luck you will need it...you will back here again asking what is wrong with my frog.

I’d like to have help by peoplel who own a grey. I bet many people on here caught their greys...!

First let me say that I can’t condone taking any frogs from the wild ....

Its not just one frog its the future generations that you have robbed it of, by putting it in a tank in your home..
Understand that some people that take from the wild are doing so to breed them and are experienced keepers. Some currently are being taken for chytrid testing..

Anyone that is not an experienced keeper should not be going after the wild ones for many reasons..

First so you know, The wild ones do not do well in captivity. They stress which causes illness etc. Most die within a short period of time..

Also all frogs carry parasites and all wild ones have a large parasite load which under stress can take over the frog.

When taking from the wild the set up must be like the natural habitat ..that means real earth with planted plants and timers with lights etc.... It should be elaborate.

A quarantine period is required in a sick tank and meds given to reduce parasite load.
Also a test for chytrid should be done on any wild caught coming in. A pcr test by vet costs around 20 US...If found positive then medication and treatment should be given..

It is now a risk to captive bred frogs to bring wild caught into the house. If you own other frogs it places their lives at risk. Cross contamination is a concern as well. Other concerns are that if they cure chytrid anyone owning wild frogs that may carry it can reinfect all over again...

With all I have read on your posts I don’t think a wild frog is the way to go for you...

I would do some more research first and insure you have a permanent set up and quarantine tank before getting any frog.

It may not be the pet for you if you cannot keep a captive bred one alive. Some people just can’t, not their fault they try but its just not in their cards.

So really think before getting anything...

Okay.

I know am unsure if I am going to get any frog.... If I do, I will prob only keep the wild caught one from a few days then let it go were I found it...
Because this summer, we are going to a show, I will be getting two new leos there...
I think we are just going to stick with the animals we have right now....
But trust me, my family will get bigger in time... :)

that’s good. I believe what’s in the wild should be left there. They have all this room, and then you want to go and stick it in a small tank. Its not a very good idea. They will not be happy living in a small box.

Also the goldfish will not survive very long in a bowl. I talked to petsmart awhile ago about this because I wanted to know what fish you can keep in a bowl. All fish need at least some air/water movement. The only fish that does well in a bowl is a beta. So there you go.

Listen to whitie and hoppy they have great advice.

Please do not keep a goldfish in a bowl. Any fish, even a beta, should be in a tank with adequate room and filtration. Just because a betta can survive in a little space doesn’t mean its good for it. I don’t know why people put goldfish in bowls, it is a miserable existance. I’m not trying to sound mean, just posting what I know.

Thats awesome! i just did that earlier tonight. The best time where i live (maryland) is about 8:45, right when they all start singing because they’re near the ground and easy to locate. I caught 7 in about an hour but put 7 back (because they were chorusing and waking up the fam. They’re so much fun to catch though. My brother and I even saw a black bear up on the hill by the pond we "hunt" at about 5 minutes walk from my house. Have a great time.
