Cuban Tree Frogs, should I keep them.

Hey guys and gals, I recently found a couple of Cuban Tree Frogs in my neighborhood. I have read that they are destructive to the herp population wherever they take root. Link

I want opinions as to the worthiness of these in a reptile setup. Should I euthanize them per what the linked article recommends?

Does anyone else keep them?

it is really up to you. Lots of people keep cubans as pets. Alot of people enjoy keeping them. You cannot handle them as thier skin is toxic so keep that in mind if you have children that may touch them and not be as careful as an adult.

If you do not wish to keep them then euthanizing them or handing them to authorities to do it is your only option. They are like cane toads in Australia.

All frogs are toxic to an extent, you shouldn’t handle frogs anyways, it really stresses them out.

All cubans are toxic even captive bred but do make good pets (you were just lucky they didn’t have any effect on you if you handled them without knowledge).. There is a post on here somewhere on burning sensations from handling....

Some get very tame and are handable (that is as frogs get) others not at all. If the ones found outside are older they most likely won’t be very tame. Younger is better if your looking for more ’pet’ type rather than say ’wild’ as in their own habitats...

All make wonderful additions to a beautiful viv and a joy to see them sing, climb and dip... Frogs can be very interesting for those that can appreciate the beauty of nature.....

Everything I’ve read says that toxic frogs lose their toxicity shortly after being in captivity, the toxicity comes from their natural wild diet. (maybe cuban frogs are different I dunno).

darts loose their toxicity, cubans do not neither do cane toads. The source of their toxins is different from that of darts.

Cubans are always toxic

usually they aren’t a problem though if you wash your hands after touching them and don’t allow them to go on sensitive areas like your face. Or you don’t touch your face while handling them.

They seem to be quite good pets otherwise
