 Flushing Out The Tank...Need Tips

Okay so I need to clean out Howie’s tank today, since all this humidity is going cause problems and could possibly make the bedding mold. That and the glass needs to be cleaned really bad since Howard enjoys sliding all over it. I heard you can use a water/vinegar mix for the glass or that ZooMed cleaner. Any details on those??? I’m going w/ Bed-A-Beast this time or any of the blocks. I used some Zoo-Med mix (I think it was Zoo-Med) last time and it had too many wood chunks and it took like 20 min. to pull most of them out. So if I’m missing something just say so and give me some details on doing correctly. I did it in like February but it was mostly changing the bedding.

Also, what is the BEST size in the special Exo-Terra tanks (the ones w/ the front doors) for one frog? For two?

ok for size tank minimum is 20gal for one WTF and add 10gal for each additional frog

Sorry I can’t remember what kind of frog Howie is. I think he was a WTF.............. Andyway that is a good rule of thumb for and tree frog in my opinion, even the little breeds.

Cleaning yes you can use a vinegar mix (or a bleach mix) but they are both used for sterilizing purposes. Since you have no problems with Howie, right?? I would just clean it out with pure water, just VERY hot.

The vinegar mix, different people say different things. A cup of vinegar to a bucket of water works, just make sure you allow it to air dry completely, this allows all the fumes and residue to evaporate off. (With bleach it is done the same way.)

So wash with the vinegar mix. Rinse with VERY HOT water and allow to air dry. Since you are not after sterile, (trying to kill anything becasue the lack of moisture is what helps kill bacteria), you can paper towel dry and then let it air a bit for smell.

Yes he is a WTF. No he isn’t sick but the glass is really smudgy and I just want a good cleaning so he doesn’t get sick. He’s really green-ing up now. I guess it’s because I have his ’Day-Bulb’ on longer and he tries blend in with the green background. He croaks randomly throughout the day so I guess he’s happy. Also, what’s the best food for crickets? I’ve been using the oranges cubes from Flukers since it’s supposed to supply food, water and vitamins, but I never see any bite marks in it. And they die pretty fast. I always flush their container every week with hot water, give them a place to hide and food, but I’ll find like 5 dead the next day.

With the Exos the only ones suitable for Whites are the L and XL. The L is 18"x18x18 (26 gal) and XL 18x18x24 (33 gal). The other two S and M are only 7 and 11 gals.

I never had any luck with they "cricket food" I use fish flakes and fruit.

I put a wet kitchen sponge in for them to suck water off (of course I use a new one). I put in fish flakes and slices of fruit like apple or pear or carrot. Some use potato but I’ve never had success with potato. They love apple.
The cricket breeder also said cornmeal is good for them. I use that too when I have it.

Since he isn’t sick I’d just use really hot water.

The background makes the difference. Mine was naturally chocolate coloured so I switched everything in the tank so it is greena nd light colours. She is now green all the time!!!

How long have you had them? The 4 crickets I don’t get? They should be eating anywhere from 4-6 each, every other day. With only 4 crickets in there, someone would be eating and someone not.

Here’s a good caresheet to get you started. Link

I mean that the crickets die pretty fast. I know how much to feed Howie, I was just wondering if people had better luck w/ different foods to keep crickets from dying so fast.
