 Calcium and Cricket Questions.

I know all about calcium powder and shaking crickets, but I was at PetsMart the other day saw something new. Fluker’s High Calcium Cricket Feed and some other brand. They both say that it’s ’loaded with calcium’. My question is, if I were to feed this to the crickets, would I still Have to shake them in powder. I don’t want too much/little calcium since I know it’s not good for the frog.

 Calcium and Cricket Questions.

I know that feeding your crickets healthy food is important for a healthy frog, back to the "you are what you eat" way of thinking........... Absorption of minerals and vitamens is a different story. I don’t think enough research has been done to prove the abilty of the crickets to absorb the calcium and therefore transfer it to the frogs. It could quite easily be eliminated by the crickets if it is not in a form that is absorbable by the crickets. Personally I wouldn’t bother wasting the $$$ on it with the questions it comes with.
Just as easy to supply your crickets with a good diet of fruit or veges, fish flakes and cornmeal then dust them for the frog. Then you know for sure the frogs are getting their required calcium and D3. Once Metabolic bone disease/disorder is apparent in the frog there is no reversing it so the risk is pretty high.
And most animals need d3 to absorb calcium so unless that is also present in a useful form in the cricket food the calcium is wasted.
