 Baby Blue update

I’m back again. My new job and my daughter have me so busy all the time that I hardly have time to go on line anymore!
The spots on the new baby are gone now. The knee I thought was sore; I think realy was skin. It went away after a few days of soaking but is now back again. There was just so much that it was affecting the way he pulled his leg in and It didn’t seem to want to come off when I rubbed it. So who ever told me that, they were right. Thank you.
However, He is not growing, always has that stress grey color, always shrinks to the ground in what looks like total fear, doesn’t eat much compared to the others, and seems to have a swollen belly all the time. It’s very frustrating. I don’t know if he’s realy sick or just a scared, small appetite, runt.
Here’s some pics: (both frogs were exact same size when received)

Hi, the pictures look great!

as far as the leg goes it sounds like skin too, though I can’t be sure.

As far as the swollen belly, maybe he’s impacted. since he doesn’t eat much either, or is there any discoloration on his belly?

Last time you posted, which was a while ago i think your humidity and temps were right, but what are they again, so we can be sure.

The swollen belly could also possibly be fungal or bacteria. Are you able to get him to a vet that does herps? it may be your safest option since your problems with this frog seem to be continuing.

In all my experience with sick frogs, swelling hasn’t been included. mainly just no eating underweight and skinny some abnormal spots and other discoloration on the belly. and of course a funny smell when the frog actually died. and a couple had soft stools now, after seeing healthy stools I know were too soft now.

Could the other frogs be scaring him? Are they all in the same tank? If so I would separate them and see if the little one eats better and acts differently. From what I can see from the pics it doesn’t look sick. But if it is, it could pass what ever it is to the others.

When you say it doesn’t eat much, how much does it eat at a time and how often? What are the temp and humidity in the tank? What size crickets are you feeding?
You mentioned that you soaked him, did you use mela fix or just warm water? What type of water are you using?

See if maybe you can get a closer pic of him and possibly of the leg in question.

If you haven’t already, I would put him in a tank by himself, with plain white paper towel, a water dish and something to climb on and a hide. Cover 3 sides of the tank to give him privacy. Make sure the temp is 82-85.
If you have already done all of this, then we can try a few other things.

He is completely quarentined by himself on papertowels at 83-87 temp depending on the time/temp of day and at about 15-20% humidity. He eats about 1 or 2 small cricks a day (smaller than the width between his eyes), but some days he doesn’t eat any . His stools are pretty soft with no shape. I used the Mela dips once but haven’t repeated because I also used tetracycaline and wanted to give a break from meds. Didn’t want to destroy his kidneys.
He croaks when ever he hears water or similar noises. He sqeeks when going after cricks. Both these things are good and normal, but I just think he looks stressed and sick. He’s not growing like the other one in the pick next to him and I didn’t think his color was very good. Do you see the way he is crouched down in the pic? He always does this. His belly seems a little distended all the time too compared to the others.
Maybe I’m all wet and there’s nothing wrong with him if you all think he looks ok. But look how good the bigger one looks. Very different.

I use 10 stage filtered water with one drop of dechlorinator in hes dish.

Not all frogs grow at the same pace, just like people.
Can you show us a pic of his stool?
Please don’t give one treatment of mela and then just stop. It is good you gave him a break from meds.
Don’t mix meds either.
I would give him a break from all meds for about a week, (since he is still eating) and then start the mela fix. Do exactly what the directions say. You need to do just as Hoppy has posted, do the dips for as long as stated. Treatments can make stools soft or not as solid as should be, but when all treatments are done it should return to normal.
