 Tips On Dusting Crickets

Hi everyone I am looking for a few tips on dusting crickets as title states. I like to leave my frogs in there enclosure and let them hunt for there food. I am not a big fan of handling them and removing them from their enclosure. I feed crickets carrots and potato which I sprinkle some dust on. Is this sufficient? Anytime I have dusted the crickets themselves they seem to die very quickly. My method was to put some dust in a bag place crickets inside and shake about and then empty into tank. Are they dying because I am over dusting them? If so what is the best method to dust crickets? Thanks in advance to those who share there methods. Cheers

how i dust mine is the bag that the crickets come in from the store i tilt it so they all go to one corner and then i spray them with my water bottle to get them lightly misted then sprinkle some powder on them but you dont need alot or they will die lol and then put them in the tank...i feed mine by hand so i load it up with powder and they kick around enough for my frog to see and eat it. i dont see a problem in hand feeding, thats how i know both my frogs are gettin an equal amount.

Cheers I will try the misting the crickets that is a good idea. Unfortunately my crickets come in a tub with an egg carton in it. I normally shake them off it into the tank but could quite easily shake them into a bag. I will remember not to over dust them. Cheers

I use the bag method too.... I use the small sandwich bags for small size amounts of crix or the larger for larger amounts or large crix... I reuse bags as I tip out crix into the tanks right from these bags..

For the larger amounts of crix like I use for my Whites I sort out all crix needed and dust them in a bag and then put in crix keeper for transfering to feeding containers.. It just helps seperate them..

The water idea is good one ... I only use a tiny bit of powder so they don’t drown in it..

I do use water gel with calcium added too and also feed fish flakes vitamin enhanced...

Feeding in or out of tank is acceptable....owners choice...

I actually do both. Only whites I outside feed in containers however I still put a few in the tank for natural hunting instincts to take place.

I reccomend anyone hand feeding (not those in sick tanks) to put at least a few crix in the tank for hunting. This keeps muscle function and eye/hand cordination in tune... Its proven that pets that have ’something’ to do are happier giving rise to longer healthier lives...

I use the bag "shake and bake" method as well. You don’t want to over do it, they shouldn’t be white. Also just dust once a week.

Another way is to use an old parmesian cheese shaker, so I’m waiting to use mine up so I can try this way.
