I have done a lot of reading before and now on this site and forums. I have read that they are easy to take care of due to no special lights i have read that a night/moon light bulb from the pet store would be beneficial in the tank i am hoping to put them in. I all so have Eco earth on the bottom of the tall tank as my substrate i have put together for them. The temp is 60-70 F right now and humidity is 65-70 F For now they are in a small tank with wet paper towel on the bottom as well as a water dish with a stone in it treated with Aquatize Conditioner and also use Mistimize Conditioner ( Made by Eco Terra). I have blacked out the sides and front with taped and garbage bag around it (as i read in a posts on this site) as to not stress them out to much. Temp in small tank is 60 F and Humidity 70F done with a gage. * When would be the best time to transfer them into the taller lager tank and is the tank they are in is to small ? As they have not eaten as of yet sorry 1 was gone so should i wait till eating good ? Is there any thing else i can do or some thing i am doing wrong I am so in love with them wanting them for so long and want all the best for them =) Thank You for Your Time Tammy Blinky and Hoppy |

How big is the other tank you are putting them in? It looks really tall. How will you get in there to clean it, does it have a door on the back or something? I would make sure the big tank has the right temp and humidity, that looks like it might be hard to keep them at a steady #. |

The big tank is 4 feet tall with yes a back door as well as a way to get in from the top for easy cleaning and ventilation. With misting i can keep the tank humidity at a steady 75-85 and temp 70-75 F. I would like to know if a night/moon light be helpful as well. I don’t know if pet store just wants my $$ but was told it will help with night temps as well ? I also added a live plant to the bottom. I have got the small tank up to the 80 humidity you suggested and have up the temp to 72 F with a small watt light bulb is that ok ? I have a day light one as well but not to sure if i should use it ? Can you Plz help me with the right timing to add them to my large tank ? Ty for your time and help =) Tammy Blinky and Hoppy

And when can i put them in ? It’s only my second day with them and don’t want to stress them out ! Tammy Blinky and Hoppy |

I would check the temps about half way down or more to see what they read. If that small bowl is a soaking dish I would get a bigger one, either from the pet store or maybe a glass baking dish. It doesn’t have to be deep, but they do like to move around in the water a little. As far as the moon light, they really don’t give off a lot of heat, but if you need that to keep temps from getting to low at night that would be ok. I don’t use one on my red eyes tank at night. They really are used to help you see the frogs at night when they are out moving around, more than anything. If it were me, I would move them to the bigger tank, 1. I would be worried about the sides of that small tank getting to warm. 2. They like to be up high and they are as high as they can get in there. 3. Red eyes don’t usually hang out together in their tanks and these two have no way of getting away from each other. While these new guys are getting use to their new surroundings, I would darken 3 sides of the tank so they have more privacy. You can use a garbage bag or paper, just something to keep the reflection down and make them feel more secure. I would also put branches going across the tank too, not just up and down.
I have more branches in their tank now, but this gives you some idea of what I’m talking about. |

Personally I would wait until you get things sorted out in the new tank before moving them over. Like already asked, where are you measuring the temps and humidity in the tall tank? That will make a huge difference in whether you need more or less temps or humidity. Humidity really doesn’t need to be as high as some people expect, anything above 60% is fine, I’ve found that with the higher temps and higher humidity they are much less active and even have labored breathing. Temps though, yours are low. The day temps need to be 75-80F, nights are fine down to 70 or even high 60s, but I wouldn’t recommend going to those extremes with already stressed new frogs. Try to maintain 70-80 at all times. That tank looks alot like an aquarium that I had, it was a grandfather clock. Quite a pain to clean, but then I didn’t have a back door! How are you keeping the frogs away from being burned by the bulbs? The bulbs can not be inside the tank, they will grab onto it and stick and be burned. Is the tank water tight at the bottom? One way to get the extra heat is to heat the water. I have a small underwater heater in my RETF tank which provides a nice warm, moist heat. I’m quite certain especially given that we haven’t even hit winter that you will have issues keeping the temps up in that tank, since you are already. I would also suggest that you get a live pothos in there, you could hang one from mid height and just let it vine down. You can buy one for $5 or so already pretty well sized. Otherwise they are going to be clinging to the glass which isn’t very natural for them. |

Just make sure you get the temps and humidity situated before moving them, the changes will stress them out. Also you’re going to want to cover some of the tank sides and back, otherwise to them it looks like things are coming at them from all sides. You can use paper bags, contact paper, or the traditional store bought roll stuff. You may even be able to use bamboo blinds or "fencing" and fit it to the tank. |

I have been doing the temp and humidity from the just above middle of the tank. I will definitely go out and get some more bamboo to put horizontally in there tank Ty i never thought of that one and also a bigger watering dish as well. Yes i was also told that moon lights helps you see the frogs at night when they are out moving around and do like that idea myself as long as its ok for them? I am going to go out tomorrow and get what you suggested and then will blacken out back and sides is that ok? Then i think i will be ready to add them to there new home =) Tammy Blinky and Hoppy Ty |

Ty for the care sheet and yes i will not move till all is well with the big tank i got the Temp and humidity the way it should be but need to black out some of tank and horizontal perches. Yes the water dish is right on the bottom but will be getting bigger one and bottom heating might help in the winter months. I will also look out for a phothos vine it would be nice to have one live vine. My bulb is up inside the top of the tank there is a foot and a half distance between the light and the screen top. There are no big holes for the to get hurt. If the bottom of the tank gets to cold in winter i will add a bottom heater like was suggested above. Yes my first ever tree frog was a green and i just loved him. I wonder if i could add some greens or should i just stick to my RETF in this tank? I’m happy all is going well with your green tree frog and you have a safe and smooth move to your new home =) Tammy Blinky and Hoppy Ty |

If you want more frogs to put in that tank make sure they are retfs. Don’t mix species. |

Get a few good meals in them before moving them over and keep the smaller one for another just to give them a good start. Make sure that the temps get up where they are supposed to be though before hand, that could really stress them out and red eyes stress easily and could die. |
