 HELP!!!! WTF NOT EATING.

If anyone could help it would be awesome because we’re worried about our little WTF, Aries. We got him about a week ago. He doesn’t seem to eat. We put crickets right in front of him and he just doesn’t seem to care that there’s food there. He mostly is inactive although i see him in various areas of the tank. When we got him he was a pretty light green color-almost transluscent. He’s darkend up a lot and he just doesn’t eat. If he does he eats like 1 baby cricket every few days. He’s getting skinny. I thought these frogs reallyl liked food. He acts like the crickets gag him or something. VERY WEIRD.

What time of day should we feed him?

Do they eat crickets?

Any suggestions on how to get him to eat???

 HELP!!!! WTF NOT EATING.

OH and here is our tank conditions

He’s shares his 10 gal tank with 2 baby Fire Bellied Toads. Half water, half smooth large pebbles. We have a water filter. The tank is kept very clean. Lots of faux foilage. Humidity is between 50-70. Day temps are about 80, night temps are 70 (we’re in AZ so its hard to get it much lower than 70)

I’d like him to eat daily since he’s just a baby but he’s not eating. Thanks for your posts!

He should be in his own tank. A 20 gallon tall would be more suitable.

Also, fire belly toads can be toxic to him since it’s such a small area. It’s not safe for him to be with them in case he eats them. He’ll die.

He should be on coconut fiber in a 20 gallon(Actually, a ten gallon is fine until he gets bigger)

thanks for the tid bits. will this make him eat? do they eat aggressively? our fire bellied toads are all over any morsel of food you stick in the tank. we separate them to feed them but the little WTF just doesn’t even seem interested in food :(

Time with tell. He should definitely be removed from the fire bellied toads immediately, though. They could be poisoning him and that may be why he’s not eating.

 HELP!!!! WTF NOT EATING.

Then you must separate him. That’s the only way he’ll be healthy.

Separate him into a ten gallon and cover three sides with trash bags or black construction paper.

we’re going to put him in our extra tank lined with papertowels (just for now until he gets healthy) lined with the black like you suggested with a water dish. Is it best to keep the foilage to a minimum in his tank for now? should we keep him in the dark during the day too until he gets better? he crawls around a lot still.

 HELP!!!! WTF NOT EATING.

put him in a quarintine tank, darkin the sides papertowel on the bottom. give him some branches and some big leaves to hide in. keep the temp normal and try the humidity normal as well first. i think he is stress from your tank with the toads. i never have a problem with multi specis if you have a huge tank but 10 gallon is way to small for all those guys. he needs his own tank.

if able go out and buy a tank for himself, get some nice branches and leaves for him. get some eco earth and keep it damp. make sure the humidity and the temp are normal. get him a good sized shallow water bowl to soak in. do all these things and he should be fine.

tree frogs are noctournal so the need the lights off at night but im sure you knew that, if you want to view him at night get a low watt red light. they cant see it but you get to watch him in all his glory. :)

It’s a better idea to keep the temps 85 and humidity 40-50 while he’s sick. The less damp conditions lowers the change of a bacterial infection. Damp conditions are breeding grounds for bacteria.

 HELP!!!! WTF NOT EATING.

Pebbles are not good for tree frogs.

Paper towels are so you can see if his stool(poop) is normal and to keep it sterile. The only substrate you should really use is coconut fiber. It’s digestible and gentle on their sensitive skin.

 HELP!!!! WTF NOT EATING.

the reason i said to put him in a separate tank and keep the temps and humidity the same is i don’t think that he is sick, i think he is stressed out. if you put him in the right conditions i think he will come around nicely.

yea you do not want pebbles, one he wont like to walk on them and 2 if he eats one of those he is in big trouble. i feed mine at night when they are most active. since he is stress don’t put a bunch in there, maybe one or two and watch to see what he does.

i think just get the tank set up how it should be and give him time and he will come around. if you try and keep him in the set up yo have now he will not make it.

hope this helps.

Just pointing out that the humidity should be low anyways because if he’s stressed, he’s more vulnerable to bacterial infections. x3

 HELP!!!! WTF NOT EATING.

Sorry rushing this morning so if repeat forgive me...

He must be put in a sick tank for now with high temps of 85f 24/7 Sides darkened to help reduce stress.
Try to do things routine like water changes ect..

Paper towel substrate and clean easy plant and cave ...very little deco..

Many do not eat the first week due to stress from transport...

Humidity for now keep at 50% to 60% until decided if only stress...if more symptoms show like watery stools etc then humidity must be dropped to the 30 to 40 range....

He is kept in the sick tank for at least 30 days until well...... After a new tank for him alone is needed..
Toads are toxic and most species cannot be mixed for many reasons....

Ok..must run...will check in later...good luck.

HOPPY
