You can check on the froggie.info site to see the safe plant list, I’d give you the link but I just switched to a new laptop and don’t have my favorites on here. |

Gravel on the bottom, then I put a sort of screen-mesh thing with a hole in it. I put a tube in the hole. Then I cover all that with coconut fiber. I get some water, pour it into the hole, get an UTH and use it. It helps keep the humidity up, will prevent mold, and keeps the soil damp. |

I cut the piece of tube larger then I think it needs to be. I stick it in the hole, put coconut fiber around the tube(Not inside!) and then snip the extra off so it only sticks out of the ground a little bit(1/4 inch, about) That way, it’s long enough to see where it is, no substrate gets inside, and you can easily take a water bottle and poor some in. I use the ZooMed UTH for a 10-20 gallon and I use a thermostat so it evaporates the water gradually. x3 |

Even if crickets do go in, it doesn’t matter because there’s coconut fiber all around the tube, so they can only go in the tube and then come back out. And it doesn’t matter where you place the tube. You can pour water in and it distributes over the gravel on the bottom and the UTH dries it up |

I have a sveral inch thick layer of gravel then covered with organic soil. I do not have mold issues either. The gravel gives the water (when you water the plants) somewhere to go and the evaporate from. Without the gravel layer the bottom of the soil can stay very wet and cause mold. Pothos is a nice plant to use. Grows fast and is pretty hardy. I am good at killing plants and that one survives!!! Alot of people put a screeen layer (just like window screen or weed screen) between the soil or eco earth and gravel to stop the soil falling into the gravel (which would defeat the purpose of the gravel!!! I didn’t have any the first time I set up my tank so didn’t do it and subsequently I haven’t done it on the other 2 replants I did. I haven’t had a problem. But it is recommended |
