 New RETF owner

So I was in petsmart yesterday getting food for my other frogs/lizard and noticed that they had a RETF which is one of my favorite frogs, it was extremely skinny and still is pretty skinny, I tried to watch him eat but he didn’t seem too but I do notice that there aren’t many crickets left in his tank which is a fully planted viv.. anyways I got somepictures of him last night and snapped ones this morning but he seems to be sleeping..

anyways here are somepuictures and if anyone could shoot out some tips that would be great

and this morning

Be careful, the problem is we try to fatten them up too quick and they can have a problem with that. Just 4-6 crickets every couple days should be good, not too big either (for an adult I use 1/2" mediums).

it will take a bit of time. Make sure your temps and humidity are right. He will take some time to settle in and destress. And as that happens they will start to eat and condition improve. They are a tough frog to get settled as they stress easily so give him some time and space in the first couple of weeks.

unfortuneatly I woke up to a dead frog :(
very sad, even though I’ve only had him for 3 days, i think he was just too skinny and not able to be saved..

Call them right away. They may require that you freeze and bring in the dead frog to give you a credit.

Most likely it was wild caught and highly stressed from capture and shipping before you got him. I would never buy one from a store again, only a good breeder.

RETF’s in general are difficult to keep alive. ones from pet stores have a rare chance at staying alive. stress of being shipped and crap care at a petstore does them in generally. sorry about your loss as well.
