Tiny tiny tree frog wont eat HElP!!!

Ive had 2 adult tree frogs Ive had them a couple of months now and on a recent trip to the pet store for crickets they had three dime size baby tree frogs in the same tank with 8 fbt i don’t know allot about frogs yet but i do know that you shouldn’t mix the 2 but i had no luck convincing the pet store of this so i bought the 3 babies and brought them home to avoid them possibly dieing problem is i bought pin head crickets 2 of them are eating fairly well i try and separate them from the larger 2 to make sure they get a chance to eat but the one little fellow hasn’t ate he has good color and looks OK otherwise should i be worried or try feeding another way or feeding something different thanks for any advice

Are the pinheads wider than the space between his eyes? If so he may need fruit flies.

Otherwise you may want to separate him until he’s as big as the rest. Also they need to settle in.

I am assuming that since you know these guys shouldn’t have been in with FBT that they should only be in with tree frogs of the same breed also. If their is a size difference of more than 1/2in between the babies and your adults that could be a problem. They can eat each other. Usually if they are well fed and not competing for food it is not an issue though.

I would outside feed the adults since they have settled in nicely. And while you have the adults out feeding them in seperate containers you could drop some pinheads or flightless fruitflies in for the little frogs. You could try putting them in a little plastic container so that the little guy who is not eating can find them easier.
Sometimes they can take some time to settle in. They can go long periods without eating. Give him a few days to see what happens. He may settle.

Do you know the exact type of frogs?

Sometimes heat and humidity etc can play part on a younger frog etc... So if you know the right temps lift them up slightly by 5f... Stress can cause many issues as these are so new to you its quite possible one is stressed more than the others....
I would give it a week for them to settle in and see if he eats by then..

If he gets worse then you may have to place him in a sick tank. Wait as long as you can though as with all change its a new stress...

Knowing the species might help me more....

Ill try separating the bigger tree frogs at feeding time they usually settle right back in after a tank cleaning so that might work and wont add added stress to the little ones. I added extra foliage to give the little ones extra hiding space mist them a little more often then the older ones and maintain a temp between 74 and 76 during the day with a slight drop at night. I had only planned on keeping the two older ones in the 10 gallon tank do you think that is still OK since the other ones are still so small. It was an impulse when i bought the other little frogs it might not have been the best thing to do since i have such a small tank but i was worried that they would die in there with the FBT. The tiny tiny one still has good color and looks OK they are all kinda thin I’m gonna try and not worry and let him settle in and hopefully he will start eating. i was also wondering about UV light i have it on the tank but have read allot of conflicting things on this since they are nocturnal. I also just want to thank everyone for the help.

They are all American green tree frogs. Ill try raising the heat some and see if that helps should I close some of the vents on the cage top to raise the humidity I mist the tank at least four times a day and the frogs ( I really need to name these guys) directly at least twice a day usually morning and then evening i have two shallow water sources in the tank. I was gonna add a small waterfall to help with the humidity but have held off on that and now with more frogs maybe i shouldn’t take up the tank space. I do a really good tank cleaning at least every other week or weekly if needed and spot clean daily could the daily be adding to the stress?

Ok at least now we know what they are we have something to go on!!!
Yep names are important!!! Pics too we all LOVE seeing new froggies!!!!!!

NEVER MIST THE FROG!!!! Only the glass of the tank. (and the plants if you want to get a little spot cleaning while adding humidity). Misting the frogs is like giving them an unexpected and usually cold shower!!! It is very stressful for them.

What does your humidity gauge say your humidity is??? If you don’t have one you really need to pick one up they are only about $3 at walmart. Guessing can be dangerous and stressful to the frogs.
These frogs don’t need too high a humidity or temps. You can get them up a few degress temp for a week or so to help the little ones. Usually they need warmer temps than the adults. A warm side and cooler side is good. So move your light to one side of the tank.
You only need to cover part of the top screen if you are having humidity problems.
I would say you are in the tank too often. You didn’t mention the substrate type or whether the tank is planted so it is hard to say but here is how I do things. My planted tank doesn’t get cleaned. I change there water and clean the water bowl daily. If I see any waste on plant leaves I remove it. I wipe down the glass with a clean damp paper towel about once a month and that is all the cleaning I do in that one. My WTF tank is a paper towel substrate. Again I change the water and clean the water bowl every day. If I see any waste lying around I will remove it then. I change out the paper towel base about every 6 weeks or if it gets real dirtier before then I’ll do it sooner. Again I do the glass once a month.
I think you should not bother cleaning as often. Especially for the next couple of weeks while they settle.

Your tank is too small. Minimum 10gal for 1 adult I believe for Americans and add 5gal per extra frog I believe. Wait for another more knowledgeable person to confirm that. So with that thinking you would need at least a 30gal and honestly I would go much larger more like 50gal. I have 5 PTF which only grow to 1&1/2in long and they are in a 50gal. I have 2wtf in almost a 60gal so for me obviously the more room the better in my opinion!!
Check Craig’s list or the bulletin board at the local pet shop. You would be surprised how inexpensively you can pick up second hand tanks.
UV light is fine. Most TF don’t really need it but since you have it that is fine. Just make sure it is only a low wattage like 20w because your tank is so small they do emit quite a bit of heat and it is very drying. Difuse it a bit with branches. Make sure you turn it off at night too.

Tiny tiny tree frog wont eat HElP!!!

I went on the advice of the local pet store about misting the frogs and 2 adults in a ten gallon would be fine I’m not so sure about trusting there advice anymore but i do believe i read that about tank size somewhere when i was trying to find a frog that was good for a beginner. The tank has a pea gravel bottom with a think layer of frog moss covering it i have live vining plants and fake ferns a large piece of driftwood in the center of the tank shallow water on both sides an under tank heater on the warm side 4 climbing branches with the vine enter twined and the humidity level is usually around 65% I change treated water daily and usually wipe the plants and glass with a damp paper towel even with all the climbing stuff they still like to climb the glass little froggie foot prints everywhere. Then bi weekly or weekly if needed i take the branches and driftwood out and give them a good cleaning they don’t wipe off as easily as the plants do. I usually turn the light out around 7 pm or sooner if temps start to get a little higher. Ive been thinking of covering 3 sides with black paper i read that can help reduce stress the pet store had just got these little guys in the day before so I’m hoping this is just a settling in period and nothing more. Ill try and get some pictures once they settle in some THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!!

A 10 gallon is fine for an american but usually if you have more than one you double it or at least 5 gallons more for each frog when they reach maturity.....

Though the pet shops mean well most of the employees have not kept the particular species in questions so forums such as this are far more useful and accurate to keepers...

Misting should be thought of like this.... If you mist the actual frog you are giving him a cold shower like a hose being turned on you on a hot summer day.... So its wise not to mist the frog but around like a soft rain...

I don’t know if I missed it but do you have a temp guage? The humidity is a little high so maybe cut back on misting a bit and get it around 50 to 60%. Most have to mist a couple times a day but in a smaller tank its harder to keep the humidity up...

The temp I would keep at 80f day and no lower than 75f nights.. As these are babies they need heat to stimulate eating...

Just a couple things to add in case its missed;
Water should be treated with treatment drops for reptiles (most say for amphibians as well)....
Calcium with vit D3 should be used for dusting..twice weekly when babies then weekly as sub-adult to adult...
Cleaning.... vinegar diluted is a good cleaner for the tank with no residue......
Darkening the sides is a good idea for stress for young frogs..you can use books to block light...

Hopefully they will all eat well soon.... Good luck..

I’m planning on getting another tank set up just for the babies i did manage to get two of them to eat i removed the older ones and put in some pin head crickets i darkened the cage and raised the temp to around 80 that is when the male started calling first time he did it that i know i do treat the water every time and change it every morning and sometimes before i go to bed if it looks a little icky i do dust the crickets and gut load them Ive got the humidity to around 60% i cut back on the misting and that has helped Thank you for the help I’m really glad i found this forum allot of very knowledgeable people on here.
