 Rubbed Nose, poor Bonzi

My little pal Bonzi has a bit of a raw spot on his face. I have recently started applying neosporin and have him in a sick tank. (just recently got him in there) Do you feel this should heal ok? I am worried about the size of this..

Neosporin is fine to use as long as it doesn’t have pain killer in it.
I would try the neosporin for a week and see if it improves, as long as it doesn’t keep him from eating it should be ok.
Make sure the hospital tank is kept clean and the temp is up to at least 82 degrees.

What size is his orginal tank? Did he do this in that tank?

aww poor Bonzi!!

Yep neosporin without the pain meds is just fine.

Keep the temps up to mid 80’s day and high 70’s night. Keep the humidity down a bit too for now. You do not want an infection to start in that wound.
paper towel substrate for now.
You need to try and figure out why the frog was rubbing. Your tank should be 20gal. If it is too small they will rub.
If there is something toxic in their tank they will also rub. So you need to discover the source of the problem too.
If you give us a run down of what is in the tank and normal temps, humidity and type of water used maybe we can help figure it out.
Usually this kind of thing will heal but so long as there is no underlying cause

From what i can tell at this time, it happened right when i got him. He was exploring his new tank and a cricket was along the top edge of the tank. he got a bit happy and jumped for the cricket. Well..he is in a exo-terra tank and the top is a screen. I think he simply rubbed his nose against the top screen when he went to grab the cricket. Other than that he is eating like a champ. It has not effected his appetite at all! hehe. actually...he is a lil pig!

I don’t think something that bad happened from jumping at a cricket once. They typically get nose rub trying to get out of a tank, repeatedly pushing against the screen.

What size tank is it? The only Exos acceptable for the Whites are, for one frog, the Large (18"x18x18 26 gal) or the XL (18x18x24 33 gal). The small and mediums are only 7 and 11 gals.

Can you post a picture of the tank to show the setup? I’d try putting some of those suction cupped plants up high in the corners. Then make sure that you have lots of plants and hides down below as well.

Like already mentioned, make sure that the Neosporin has NO painkiller, otherwise it will kill the frog.

From the pic it looks to me like it could be possibly raised rather than a scrape.

Can you be sure? If its raised you should use the mela fix dip with any cream to kill the bacteria causing this fungul infection to start... Humidity should be lowered to the 30 to 40 range for safety and temps up in the 80’s range 85f prefered......

A better cream is silver sulfadiazine cream if its severe.....

If it is nose rub it usually means there is an issue inside the tank. It can be that temps are too cold or that there isn’t enough privacy or something that is toxic.. A review of your tank is wise at this time.
If you list or show a pic of your tank members can check if any issues are of concern....

sorry for my lack of posting!

Bonzi is doing much better. It was a little iffy as he quit eating when he went in the sick tank. He finally started eating again and looks much better. I am hoping to remove him from the sick tank this week! it has taken a good 2-3 weeks for his nose to heal up. I feel so sorry for him but he has been a trooper. Just Wednesday he took a nice big pee on my keyboard.*sigh* lol....that showed me he is feeling back to normal

Did the "pee" shoot out or dripped out? if it shot out that meant it was stressed and it released its water reserves so if he/she does it again put him in his water bowl.

first time drip..second time shot out because i grabbed him real quick lol.. i had got him out of the tank to put his meds on and he seems to hate going back in the tank, he will crawl up my arm trying to get out. i am a sucker for that.. and sit him on a damp papertowel on my desk. 9 times outta 10 he will get up on the keyboard and sit instead lol..

sometimes when they keep trying to escape from their tank or won’t go back in it CAN be a sign that there is something in the tank that is a problem to them............
especially with the wound it is worth posting pictures or doing a complete run down to make sure there are no issues

Insure he is in the sick tank for 30 days or more from the time he seems normal like eating/waste etc..

If you put him back to early there is a possibility he will relapse by stress alone...

If he is not rubbing in the sick tank there is something in the big tank.... It could be what its been cleaned with so insure to clean it with vinegar and water and give it a good going over....

Remove everything.. Only place back what absolutely safe like a ceramic water dish .... Everything else should be double checked either by baking it like wood or that its safe wood etc.... Plants checked for dye issues etc...
Substrate should be baked or replaced.... If a uth is present insure its not sparking or too hot .... Now it the time to look at everything..
