 Baby red eyed tree frog purple

I have two baby red eyed tree frogs in a ten gallon temporary tank. i had sphagnum moss as a substrate but one wasn’t eating so i replaced it with paper towels to monitor it. There less then an inch big and one of them is almost always a dark lavender color. The temp stays around the high seventies during the day and i drop it to the low seventies at night. the humidity is usually between 70 and 80%. the other baby is a nice green color bt does anyone know why my smaller one is purple??

For babies you want to keep the temps a bit tighter and less on the lower ends. I would try for 80-85F day and no lower than 75F at night. Also it doesn’t need to be really humid, around 60% consistantly is fine. They need lots of cover. I would cover the sides and front (and back) with paper bags taped up, if after a week or so they are doing fine remove the front cover.

Purple is actually a normal variation for color, my one goes purple alot (female) while the male is never. He is always from a really light green to a darker green. She usually is like that at night when hunting.

Make sure you are treating the water. Tap water should be treated with Reptisafe or similar (for reptiles/amphibians) and not the fish kind. Put the drops in a gallon milk jug of water and leave overnight to let it take out the chlorine and chloramine.

Could be stressed out. Leave him be and cover the tank. Make sure everything is correct in the tank.
