 Choosing Frogs?

Hey everybody, I’m new here. I have a 50 gallon aquarium that has goldfish and black moors in it right now but I am moving the goldfish out to my pond in the spring and I had green tree frogs a couple years ago and really liked them so I thought I could make a terrarium out of this aquarium since I like plants and frogs but I want something that actually chirps and makes noises because I love listening to frogs in the warmer monthes and unless I was doing something wrong I never heard a peep out of the green tree frogs that I had. So, I figured this was a good place to start. Thanks!

the chirping is all based on the happiness of the frog and noises. from what i have noticed and heard from other people, sounds such as a fan kicking on or an electrical motor of an automisting system will make some frogs croak. i know the frogs i have croak all the time. i can get them to do it by mimicing them.

but naturally its going to be based on the frogs. if you have more frogs, ie more males AND females the odds are probably going to be higher than you will hear croaking, because the males will of course have something to croak over.

that is just my opinion. im sure you will get different ones.

I have whites tree frogs by the way. a 50 gallon isnt very tall, but you could have 3 or 4 frogs in there.

Reed frogs would be a good choice if you are going for vocals over size.

you could have a good number in a tank that size as well.. I would say a colony close to 10-12 strong.

these are amazingly vocal.. so only a few males would give you the sounds you want to hear.

they are also very small, about the size of a quarter when full grown.

they come in a range of colors as well.

look into the species: hyperolius
