Soil substrate for White’s tree frog? Hello everybody. Iam new here, though I know quite a bit about the White’s Tree frog. Currently I am trying for the most natural/biotope set up in my 25 gallon tall tree frog tank, which would include soil. Have any of you tried an organic soil? All the organic soil I can find at this time of year is good except that it contains these stupid(benifial otherwise) perlite balls . Now I know nothing should be in the tank if dangerous to consume, but what else can I do? Maybe sift out the perlite? Really Im just looking for an excuse not to redo my enitire planted set up that took 3 hours to complete. It was after that I became aware of this possible no no! This really sucks, as I have put a deposit down on the frog at the pet store, and the only thing holding me back is this surprisingly difficult soil factor. I am not going to jeapordize the poor frogs life, and least importantly the 50 bucks Im going to pay for him. Anyone know anything about this situation? Thanks, Chris

Soil substrate for White’s tree frog?
we’ve had a tree frog for a year now and I’ve used everything from soil to paper and have had no problems. I prefer to use paper though cause the dirt either got to dried out or flooded.

Soil substrate for White’s tree frog? I use this stuff from Petco, called Forest Bedding or something, works well and isn’t harmful if ingested. They like.

Soil substrate for White’s tree frog? Thanks you two for you replies. I ended up getting rid of the soil. No matter where you get soil at this time of year, it will contain atleast perlite, if not fertilizers etc. In the spring you might be able to get some pure top soil from a nursery or greenhouse, that is of course unless you compost your own. The only realy good, safe alternative for the planted/natural habitat I want, turned out to be coconut fiber. We’ll see how well the plants do. Everything else is good now, except that the frog has been sitting in the same spot now for the past two days, despite branches to climb on, and food in the tank. Oh well, I guess he’s still stressed, and getting used to his new home. Thanks again, Chris

Out of the over 30 different frog species I’ve had, I use (well over 6 years now) Forest Bed by T-Rex. It doesnt mildew or mold, and it holds humidity perfectly. It’s inexpensive and expands 8 times it size. Another alternative if you can’t find the T-Rex verzion is the Zoo Med Eco Earth. I use these for my amphibians as well as my insects and have always had good luck. As long as you mist properly it shouldn’t dry out.

Soil substrate for White’s tree frog? I use sphagnum moss in my White’s Tree Frogs tank. It’s very natural looking and very cheap (a big bag from Home Depot cost me $3).
