Please help!!! think my frog is dying!

so for the last few days he has been hiding and when i find him he is in strange positions...he doesnt hop and seems like he is not moving his arms correctly...its very strange, and he seems somewhat skinny compared to his old self.

he seemed a little dry so i thought well maybe he needs help getting into his bowl ...so i put him in his water bowl and he just turned over on his back ...so is he on his way up to froggy heaven or what?

he is about a year old i have had him since a tadpole and this poor frog has lived through everythingi have found him in my basement 2 times seemingly half dead and he has come back full of life after that ordeal... if anyone knows whats going on with him please let me know...oh he is a grays tree frog.

First you need to make sure that the setup is correct. I suggest going to amphibiancare.com and checking out the caresheets as well as setup help.

Make sure the setup is correct.
Make sure the temps and humidity are correct. You need gauges inside the tank, your room temps mean nothing.

Water correct? either treated with drops tap or spring water otherwise they will dry out internally and die.

Are you feeding him enough? I’d estimate about 4-6 crickets every other day. Well fed crickets as well as once a week dusting them with calcium/d3 powder.

Do NOT make him soak, he will do it on his own, handling him just stresses him further. You can add a little bit of unflavored Pedialyte to the soaking water, like 1/2 tsp to the bowl.

Make sure that there is plenty of hiding spots and cover in the tank. Lots of plants to crawl on and sleep on. Cover the back and two sides with paper bags or something for privacy., even the front if it is a busy or bright room.

Give the details of what is in the tank, how big it is, anything new that has been added recently, and pictures would be best.

If this was a collected tadpole from your area, you could at this time of year let it go near where you got it. It would be better than letting it die.

his tank is big (20 gallon) and everything has been the same since he has been a frog....i thought about letting him go since he was a pool rescue tadpole...but then i worry if he can fend for himself...and the fact that he will not hop...he just does like an army type crawl..makes me worry that he would just be a meal for something else, or that he would just starve.

today he looks really bloated and is hardly moving at all.

can you put up a picture of him? There are a lot of different things that could be wrong with your frog. What kind of frog is it? It could be anything from a toxic shock to an infection.

Things like air freshener, perfumes, cleaning products etc in the air can do this, including fertilizer/pesticide that is found on potted plants. Think really hard about what could have been exposed to him. Even things like painting in the house.

Then I’d check the water, if anything try bottled spring water (not drinking water as that has added vitamins they don’t need). Make sure the dish is for food/pets so that nothing is leeching into the water.

Sorry to hear that.

Before you get another see if you can’t find out the issue in the tank. It may need to be torn down completely.

I don’t think we will be getting another frog anytime soon ... the tank has been already cleaned and put away..

Thanks again for all your advice!
