 Something Different then Bed-a-Beast

Hi, I have one White’s Tree Frog and I was wondering can you use something different than Bed-a-Beast? Because it is really expense ($8.00 per brick) and if I get it online it cost a lot for shipping. So can I use like organic pot soil/mix?

Thanks,
Alex

You can get Eco Earth in packs of 3 for cheaper. I can get packs of 3 bricks for $8.00 with tax.

Eco Earth is the same as bed a best.
You can use any potting soil as long as it doesn’t have any chemicals in it.

Actually bed a beast tends to have chunks of junk in it, like leaves and even twigs, the EE is all shredded cocoa.

I use a combo of the EE (I get the bricks too for only $3, one is enough for a 20 gal) and then I used in this last tank half organic peat and it is holding moisture really well, much better than the EE alone. It’s cheap too.

Eco Earth cocofiber bricks are usually $2.99 a brick $7.99 a 3 pack. Bed-a-Beast is more expensive. The EE one works perfectly. You can use organic soil if you can find it. Just be sure there are no fertilizers added to it, usually an orchid mix or something.

Personally I use EE, with some leaf litter mixed in with a handful of sand.

Different people have different preferences. I have used both eco earth and bed a beast successfully for a year without issues. In fact i got two bricks of bed a beast today to add additional substrate to the tanks so one tank I know is a mix of eco earth and bed a beast the other is a mix of cocoa husk and bed a beast. Seems to be a successful combination here.
