 Rescued Tree Frog HELP!

OK,
So I recently rescued a White’s Tree Frog from a woman who had bought him for her grandson and he had abandoned it and needed to get rid of it quickly. She had owned him for about two years. When she got him and two others from the pet store the one that I rescued had a large spot on his nose where he had been hitting against the glass and knocked the skin off from the tip of it. Apparently the pet store didn’t feed them enough and also had crickets visibly next to the aquarium that they were left in. He still has the spot today two years later and I don’t know what to do to fix it. It does not look infected at all, just has the skin still knocked off of it. He is otherwise healthy looking by what I have read and seen online and in the treefrog books I bought. Is there anything I can try to fix it because I hate to see him suffering and we don’t have a herp vet in my town.

Neosportin without pain relief is a good treatment for skin tears and cuts. Just dab a little on the rubnose to keep off infection and make it heal faster. This is Neosporin, remember, not Neosporin Plus with pain relief. Neosporin is an ointment, clear colored. Neosporin plus is a cream, white colored, don’t use the cream.

How large of a tank do you have for it? You can cover 3 sides of it with dark paper so that it doesn’t feel so exposed. Search for a caresheet in google. If you think of any more specific questions just ask.

 Rescued Tree Frog HELP!

He came in a 10 gallon tank, yes I know I need a bigger one, I am in the process of looking for a 20 tall at least. I also replaced the tank liner sheet that they had in there with appropriate bedding for him since I have also read that it is very bad for them. I had seen someone say that if you put up a 2 inch barrier around the bottom of the tank with a colored strip of paper that it might help stop this, which I have done. He seems to be much happier since I did this and was much more active last night. I found the ointment, not the cream, without the pain reliever! Thanks so much for the help! This place is really helpful!

Check craigslist.com for cheap used tanks. There are a lot of good deals on there.

For now just tape up paper bags to the back and sides of the tank to give him privacy, ths will relieve the stress.

Great! And with that much space in the future you could get another (of course you’ll need to quarantine the new one for a few weeks first).

Try checking out the caresheet and tank building info on www.amphibiancare.com for more info.

I’d assume he wasn’t eating very well so I’d be feeding every other day (4-6 crickets) until he’s looking healthy.
