 Red eye and white lip.

I currently have an adult male white-lipped tree frog. he lives in a 10-gallon tank. however, i’ve always been fascinated by the red-eyd tree frog, and i was wondering if anyone had any feedback on putting these two species in the same enclosure, because im worried that my white-lipped will eat the red-eye because he is quite large even for his species. he is just over 5 inches long from snout to vent. thank you for your feedback.

He will absolutely eat it.

Pull up the No MIxing thread and read through it for more reasons NOT to mix any species. (Not to mention that a 10 gal is really too small for the frog you have already. Minimum would be a 20gal)

well, my local petstore owner told me that a 10 gallon is fine, in fact she has hers in a 5 1/2. she also told me that they will be perfectly fine together.

She is perfectly wrong. Tree frogs need room to climb. 20 gal is the bare minimum size you’d need for a tree frog. Pet store owners lack experience with frogs usually, and are also motivated to make sales at the expense of the animals. I’ve kept both species, putting them together multiplies the stress and health risks of both species astronomically.

ok, i will promptly purchase a new tank for my white lip, probably a 20 tall, and some fake plants to put in there. i will also buy another 20 gal to put a red eye in, maybe even two! thanx a bunch!!

Absolutely they are wrong!!

Even if you have to use a Rubbermaid tub, separate them.

You can usually get tanks on Craigslist used with tops for around $1/gal. Otherwise I know Petco has their annual $1/gal sale on standard tanks around Labor Day.

A 20gal long can be turned on end for the Red eye as well, they really like the top of the tanks with lots of plants and leaves.

Seriously wait at least a week after getting the tank set up before getting the frog. It takes a while to get the temps and humidity to run correctly and let the plants set up. They stress so easily and can die.
