They can live for like 10 years, i would get 2 males because they are a little bit smaller than females, just dip 2-3 crickets in it once a week :)

spray tank daily to keep humidity up, Males get 4 inches
females get around 5-6.They will eat as much as you
give them, you really need to watch their weight, they can get fat really fast...
they are very lazy in the day, and active at night. Also, the males will croak at night so if you get males and you a a light sleeper, i would put them were you will not be annoyed. or you could get females, then you would need a bigger tank, they would not be croaking...:)

k cool :) i’m just gonna stick with getting 2 males. i’m a heavy sleeper so their croak shouldn’t annoy me and plus i play music when i sleep so that may drown out the sound. i don’t think it’d annoy me anyway even if i was a light sleeper cuz i love the sound frogs make lol :)

It will be very difficult to determine the gender at a pet store, if you find babies, just try that and be surprised when they grow up :)

Thinking of getting a frog... need some info Actually your tanks are a little small for 2 frogs. BTW white’s can live alone as well. If you still want to get 2 then you need at least a 30gallon tank. The rule is 20gallons for 1 frog and close to 5/10 gallons per frog.

Thinking of getting a frog... need some info These frogs do fine in house temps. Therefore no light or heating is needed. I’ve actually tried the under the tank heater, but found out they were pretty much useless as the heat doesn’t penetrate the upper most layers. If you need to bump up tems to about 80-85 degrees get a red blub as they can’t see red.
Humdity should only be around 50%. You need to measure this with a digital or heat gun. Dials can be as much as 20% off. I achieve humidity with a water fall.
Eco Earth makes a great substrate, but it’s not great for plants. Also make sure you have some steady branches for them to climb on.
Whites are a terrestrial species, meaning they spend more time on the ground.
If you need tips on inexpensive solutions let me know.
The are a great species to own. I have 3. One I’ve head for about 3years now.

Thinking of getting a frog... need some info Heat lamps are very bad for frogs, they dry stuff out too much, and can cause the frog to shrivel up and die, UNDERTANK heaters are the best!!!

Thinking of getting a frog... need some info I didn’t say a spot light, or basking light now did I. I have more experience with white’s tree frogs, as you have a green tree frog. The red bulds are only about 50watts or so, like a normal house hold light bulb, only in red. Part of 20gallon long tank, which is the minimum for a white’s can be fairly dry without a problem. Have you tested the ground where your undertank heater is? You can’t feel it unless you don’t have a layer of eco earth. I have planted plants in my soil, so I need more than just a basic layer, plus I have a layer of gravel under the eco earth, so that there is a drainage layer, so the soil is not soggy. If you have the correct setup, you probably will not feel the effects of an undertank heater, therefore its useless. Frogs do fine in room temps, but if your room is anything like mine, where we keep the house at about 68degrees, its too cold. They need a bit of heat to warm up the tank. Hence the light. (notice NOT a basking Light). I refuse to argue with you anymore on the subject. I’ve stated my oppion and if you want to know more on my reasons then you can ask me, or pm me.

Thinking of getting a frog... need some info I have 4 american tree frogs and 3 dumpy tree frogs. They do need a tall cage as they like to climb. Both of my set ups are heat from above with lights. They love to bask and will go down to soak at night. I also mist them 1 time a day. An under tank heater is more for geckos that need belly heat to digest food.

Thinking of getting a frog... need some info I just wanted to add the fact that both species are arboreal, thats why they re called tree frogs lol. The dumpy frogs need a little warmer temps then the american tree frogs. As warm as 85 degrees in 1 spot and cooler in other spots. Also an under tank heater is not recommended for frogs as the glass will break if water is spilled near a uth. 12 crix , more or less, are fine for 1 dumpy. the green tree frog will eat maybe half that amt. dust with vitamins 1 or 2 times a week.use bottled spring water for soaking and distilled water for misting.I use a regular bulb for day time and red bulb for night viewing.

Thinking of getting a frog... need some info Mealworms are hard for frogs to digest so no. The worms I feed him are redworms. The only problem with worms is that they move to slow for the frogs to see. You would have to jiggle and wiggle them on the end of tweezers. Mine won’t eat of the tweezers as they are not trained to do so. You can train them, though. Red worms are a great addition to crickets. Honestly I’ve never had a problem with over fed frogs. You do have to watch their weight, but its not really anything to get to worried about.
