Need help Hi, My son is the happy companion to one very cute RES, Ralph. He got "him" (we don’t know the sex) in July from a friend who was moving and couldn’t take him along. So far we have had no problems but in the last two days we have noticed in the morning only a white film on top of his water. I am going to give you all the information I can because frankly I don’t think my son could handle waking to a dead turtle. Ralph is his best buddy and if anyone can give me any advice I would appreciate it. He is eating, swimming, and basking as usual. Ralph is about 3 inches long. He lives in a 10 gallon tank. He has a floating dock and also a hide out/ dock combo. The tank is equipped with 2 porcelain clamp lamps one with a 60 watt UVA basking lamp from All Living Things that we keep on from 10:30am-7:30pm, the other with a Exoterra repti glo UVB/UVA fluorescent bulb that is kept on from 6am to 8:30pm, at 8:30pm we switch to a nightglo moonlight bulb also by Exoterra. We have a Tetrafauna submersible covered reptile heater which keeps the water at 78 degrees. There is a Fluval submersible filter for a 20 gallon tank and 4 kyoto plants. The air temp is steady at 79 degrees and the humidity reads at 50%. We feed him every other day and he eats Reptomin baby formula pellets, krill and every once in a while we will give him softgel fruit as a treat. He is still coming up to us when we come into the room and doesn’t show any signs of distress. We had noticed in the last couple of months a slight oily substance on the top of his water and just took it as a sign to clean the tank more often, now this white stuff has started. Do you think the white slimy stuff is coming from him or the tank, plants, water? We are really at a loss and are confused, any help would be great. Thanks so much for reading this and have a great day!
