Hi Amy,
The Egyptian tortoise is a little smaller than a Russain tortoise. You can google Care sheet for Egyptian tortoise. It will provide the information you need. There will be several selection web sights to look at. It will give you the size when they are full grown. They are only an inch or two smaller than the Russian. And the female of the tortoise is always a little bit bigger than the male. I do not know the cost of the Egyptian tortoise. I am going to be purchasing a baby Russian tortoise when I return to Ohio. The store where I hope to purchase my little Russian from, is selling them for $90.00. It would be a good idea to google Care sheets for Russian tortoises, also. They get to be about 6 to 8 inches as an adult. But please follow the advice on the care of these wonderful animals. I wish you a lot of luck in your search for a tortoise. If you have the time to care for them properly, they make great pets. Let me know what you find.

Sincerely,
Ann

You need permits in most places to have the egyptians, they are endangered and more rare---more $ to get them. Not impossible but harder.

If your heart isn’t set on a tortoise then I perfer the wood turtles as first time not all water turtles. The care is easy, they eat about anything, most do the land/water thing so setting them up is so much fun, if you goof on something they are able to live through it....cooler temps for a week will kill a tort but a wood turtle would most likely make it through with no issues. And they come in very pretty colors.
