red foots are amazing, especially cherry head red foots, they cost around 125 normaly, but it depends on the season. as for ST’s, i love them. they have the best all around personalities of any tortise... only one problem. they are eating and pooping machines! as long as you can keep up with the clean up its all good. the big difference is that red foots stay at about 12-14 inches full grown and ST’s well.. they turn into small army tanks and will litterally walk threw your bedroom door. (mine acomplished moving my living room couch once) hahahahaha. they can cost anyware between 120-300.

Yes, you can have tortoise as pets. I purchased mine at an exotic pet store. 2 red-foots and 2 African- spur-thighs. I don’t know about Canada though.

Sulcata aren’t bad on price between $100 and $150 for a baby. The price goes up as they grow.

The food isn’t bad either, they only eat hay and grass with a small amount of pumpkin. And a bite of fruit a week.

The caging is the hard part. They can get up to 100 pounds, are grazing/digging animals and need ALOT of room. Take the fact they are from Africa even in central Florida I have to bring them in during the winters. You have a 1 foot tortoise who does not take no for an answer bashing your walls with 30 pounds of weight behind them and you have issues. Mine destroy everything!

Keeping two sulcata together is very hard, most will fight unless you have alot of room and don’t put two males together. Then there is the pain ones....my youngest is 2 years old and will bash into even the 6 year old female....3 times his size. Any males kept with females will breed ALL the time with her, she will get sick of it and bash them. I have seen injuries from the bashing going through the shell, killing each other or breaking human bones.
Read more, make an informed choice. Get one animal and see how it goes....you can always get another one. Besides the standard reptile rule of you can’t have just one. Check out forums, google breeders, someone may be willing to ship to you from the northern states, heck it’s the same as shipping south.
