i was fishing today and i caught a turtle! there was only one and its a babie. its a common snapper.

the rest of them died or got killed because it was the only one. and i was down there right before a huge thunderstorm came. im not going to keep it forever i am going to raise it till it gets a good size and let it back go because i live like right next to the creek and i have never ever seen a snapper in there. so if you wont help me i will find other ways.

Raising it then letting it go is preparing it for death. A huge thunderstorm won’t hurt the turtle. And as for not seeing any other snappers that isn’t a bad thing. He can be the alpha of the creek. Put him back, other people are going to tell you the same thing.

Also most snappers are protected, and you can go to jail for taking them out of the wild, or you or you parents will get a big ticket.

ok. i only had it for 3 weeks. i let it go and it was perfectly healthy. i had it just to observe, i wasnt even thinking of keeping it as a pet. i asked people around here and they said they are not protected here.

First off there are like oh gee,Thousands of Common Snappers all over the eastern,and western parts of the united states,second they are not a protected species,it is Alligator Snappers that are protected,not Common Snappers.Get your facts straight.Granted they dont make the greatest pets,i meen dont expect this thing to cuddle with you,But if you did happen to keep it,and then let it go,it would revert right back to its natural state.
