 Baby snapper...and box turtle...

i just got a baby snapper...its soo cute...i can hold it and pet his little head and he doesnt seem very aggresive yet. but is it true that you can tame a snapper?

and the box turtle is way too small. i heard if you count under his belly thats how old he is??? and i counted 12 and its really small like it was kept in captivity and it has a very very small tail. brown eyes. and its very very nice. doesnt get scared often...and it chills with me...we found it outside just sitting in the road. so i kept him or her...so how old is it and what is it a boy or a girl?

Put the box turtle back, its a wild animal and needs to stay that way. We are running too low on the number of boxies.

I believe some snappers can be tamed, to an extent. Don’t forget any animal that weighs 30+ pounds is going to have its fair share of say in what it does, regardless of how tame it is.

There is no acurate way to determin age unless you witness the hatching of the turlte in question. There are people that will tell you count the scutes but wait a year and count them again, there will be no more than before. You can make an educated guess but to do so you need to know where it came from(wild or captive), if it lived outdoors or indoors, what it was fedd and how often, etc. I breed a number of turtles and I can get a Boxie to be the size of a golf ball in about 8-9 months but they spend the first year of there lives indoors and awake. I have others that stay outdoors and brumate for a few months and they are about half the size in the same time frame.

thank you tony for being so kind to tell me info instead of telling me to let her go. she was in captivitie all her life...and if i let her go she wouldnt know what to do and would die. i asked the vet about it and he told me so. but thank you for replying to me <3

Its not good to take boxies out of the wild, everyone should spread the word, but you say its captive bred, so dont realease it, but also dont take boxies out of the wild, Snappers, if you take one of those out of the wild, you can get fined, depending where you live. Snappers will need a big pond as they get big, and you would have to be carful since it can tank off finger when older.

He said he found it just sitting by the road. Just because its friendly doesn’t prove it was captive bred. Unless its not native to the area I don’t see how anyone can judge captive breeding over a friendly wild turtle.

Get down off your soap box collaredliz. Just because you’ve bred them doesn’t make you the knower of all. Hate on me on one post and do it again another. Grow up.

Well again you tell everyone to grow up when you do the same damn thing, i accutally never even said anything about you in this post, lol. I dont know it all, you obviously dont know everything. And for you to say that i hate, when you hate on every person that owns a turtle. But i guess its only works one way.
