It depends upon what kind you are talking about.

I assume by terrapin you mean some sort of water turtle.
There are about 180 kinds though.

All are omnivorous to some extent but many have specific dietary needs. Some are mostly herbivores and many are largely insectivores/piscivores.
Do you know what kind you want to feed?

Terrapins are great I feed all of mine turtle pellets, feeder fish, crickets, roaches, and plant matter. What type do you have I have Diamond backs and Texas?

In some parts of the world all aquatic turtles are called terrapins.
Since red eared sliders are the most well-known turtle on the earth it’s not unusual to find a place where people refer to them as terrapins.


Paul,
if your red ears are under say 12 cm then theyir diet should consist mostly of live insectds (no hairy caterpillars or fireflies), whole small fish (with heads, fins, scales etc) dark green vgetables, fruits and water plants.

If they are ;arger than about 12 cm then aim for the same diet with about 50 - 70 percent coming from water plants and dark greens.

Turtle pellets or pellets for some kinds of fish (koi and African cichlids for example) which are low in protein are a good supplement and can constitute 5 - 20 percent of the diet.
