I would say more like a 90 to 120 depending on if it is male or female. Ideally, an outdoor pond.

Yes, at the bare minimum a 55 gallon.
A friend of mine who won’t listen to anything I tell her baout reptiles keeps her Red-Eard slider in a 10 gallon.

I think it’s about a juvenile, but when I look at it, it has lots of room to swim.
So yea, if you can’t get a 60 or 120 gallon tank, get either a 55 gallon OR HIGHER.

 Lighting and heating question?

Ok so my little guy is here now and because he is so little right now we have him in a 10 gal. tank but we are having a few issues. Because of the size of his tank we have not yet bought him a heater ( don’t really need it) Now his water temps. are like a litttle bit above 80 and the basking area is about 75 or so. How can this be corrected. I have moved the light closer and that does bring up the the basking area temp. but also heats the water up higher. So i moved it farther away it lowered the water temp. and the basking temp. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Basking temps don’t have to be PERFECT for little turtles, they usually don’t bask, I’ve caught one of my baby spotteds basking only once.
Though red ears bask more...
But they still won’t bask much, and it isn’t AS important.

RES love to bask, my babies like to stack as high as they can. before with just two it was cute, now with four, it’s absolutely a kodak moment.
