Upside down turtle 
I just got a hatchling african helmeted side-neck. We have been noticing that when he gets in the water sometimes he floats upside down and tries to right himself but can’t seem to. It’s kinda scary because me and my boyfriend both have jobs and i don’t want him to drown. Should i keep him in shallower water? He’s really healthy other than that... he eats and basks. Does anyone know what is wrong with him or if it is serious? Thank you. Nina

IT sounds like he has an upper respiratory infection. You should bring him to a herp vet ASAP!!!!!!

Keep him in shallow water until you can get to the vet ... also make sure his temps are in the high 80’s to try and fight the infection.

thanks a lot... I thought you guys might say that :(. I’m making an appointment with my vet today... i don’t know if I will be able to get there any sooner than friday because I have to work. Thank you!
