Breeding Questions We have two RES (Fudge and Spot). They are in a 40 Gallon (Length 5 feet X Height 2 feet X 14approx wide) aquarium. We were told by the reptile guy in the reptile store (San Diego), that they will breed without mud or hibernating. She will just lay the eggs in the water. About the size of Robin eggs, and if we get the eggs out with in 12 hours they will be OK. I have tried to confirm this by reading up on them and have found nothing to support his claims. If you have any ideas on this theory please respond. And when do they mate? They do the little mating dance all of the time, and Spot likes to expose himself, but we have never noticed anything else.We want little ones but I don’t want to risk hibernating them. Thanks in advance

Breeding Questions THEY LIE. Turtles dig and bury their eggs. On land. ANd if you DO plan on breeding, I’ll just let you know they are very overpopulated, but just don’t continually breed them, do what you want. But aanyway, if you plan on breeding, you will probably need a bigger tank. Try a 40-gallon breeder tank. They have more floor space. If you can’t get one, it should still be alright. It’s just to make them happier to mate. Thank you and keep us posted on what goes on.-collin

Breeding Questions If you plan to bred plan to hibernate. My step mom has had her RES for over 3 1/2 years they do to mating dance but no eggs. Think about it in the wild they hibernate then wake up and a short while later they mate. And if you keep them inside away from the change of seasons then they do not know it is time to mate and have babies. SO if you want babies I firmly suggest that you read up on how to hibernate them safely. And go that route.
